From the St. Ignatius Chapel at the Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Center in Pickering, Ontario. The National Catholic Broadcasting Council presents the Daily TV Mass.
SPEAKER_03Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I am Father Francis Salesiar. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contributions from three donors. The first are anonymous donors from Mississauga, Ontario, who give thanks for the blessings of 30 years of marriage. May God continue to pour his grace, love, and protection upon them as they celebrate many blessed years of faith, commitment, and family life. They give thanks for the joy they have shared, the challenges they have overcome, and the family they have built together. May God grant them continued unity, health, and peace as they journey forward. They offer this mass in gratitude for this beautiful milestone. The second are the Knights of Columbus of the St. Joseph Assembly from Edmonton, Alberta, in support of the Daily TV Mass. The third are Richard and Janet Nicole from Saskatoon for the intentions of their family and friends. Our sincere thanks to our donors for the gift of this Mass. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
SPEAKER_05Amen.
SPEAKER_03The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. As we continue to journey the season of Easter, we are called to bear the fruit of Easter. If we call ourselves as the people who are experienced a resurrection, then we have to show in our action. And our faith should show the fruits in what we do. Let us ask God's pardon and mercy for the moments of our failures. You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. You came to call the sinners. Christ have mercy. You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us. Lord have mercy.
SPEAKER_05Lord have mercy.
SPEAKER_03May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to life everlasting.
SPEAKER_04Amen.
SPEAKER_03Let us pray. Set aside, O Lord, the bond of sentence written for us by the law of sin, which in the Paschal mystery you canceled through the resurrection of Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
SPEAKER_00A reading from the Acts of the Apostles. Now during those days when the disciples were increasing in number, the Hellenists complained against the Jew the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution of food. And the twelve called together the whole community of the disciples and said, It is not right that we should neglect the Word of God in order to wait on tables. Therefore, friends, select from among yourselves seven men of good standing, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint to this task, while we, for our part, will devote ourselves to prayer and to serving the Word. What they said pleased the whole community, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, together with Philip, Procorus, Niconor, Tymon, Parmenas, and Nikolaus, a convert of Antioch. They had these men stand before the apostles who prayed and laid their hands on them. The word of the Lord.
SPEAKER_02Make a melody to him with a harp of test. We place autust for the word of the Lord is right, and all his work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice. The earth is full of the status love of the Lord. As we place our trust truly, the eye of the Lord is on those to fear, on those to hope his steadfast love, to deliver their souls from death, and to keep them alive in family.
SPEAKER_03Glory to you, Lord. After feeding the crowd, Jesus withdrew to the mountain by himself. When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, got into a boat, and started across the sea to Kapernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. When they had rowed about five or six kilometers, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were terrified. But Jesus said to them, It is I, do not be afraid. Then they wanted to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the land toward which they were going. The gospel of the Lord. It was the first boat he had ever owned, and he was thrilled to try it out. So one afternoon he took it to the lake for its first ride. Everything seemed perfect at first. The water was calm, the sky was clear, and the man felt proud as he guided his little boat across the lake. But suddenly the weather changed, dark clouds rolled in, the wind began to howl, and the waves started tossing the boat back and forth. The man was terrified, holding on tightly, he shouted, Lord, if you save me from this storm, I promise, I promise I'll go to church every Sunday. And just like that, the wind died down, the clouds parted, the lake became perfectly calm again. The man looked up at the sky and said, Never mind, Lord, I think I got it under control. It's a funny story, but it's always say something very true about us. When life becomes stormy, we suddenly remember God. We pray more. We ask for help. But when that storm passes, it's easy to think that we manage everything ourselves. Sometimes storms in our circumstances and sometimes storms within our communities, families. But they also remind us that God is always guiding his people through those storms. The first reading from the Acts of the Apostles, the early Christian community is growing quickly. At first glance, that sounds like wonderful news. And it is. But growth also brings challenges. Soon a complaint arises. Some widows in the community feel they were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. In other words, a sense of unfairness begins to grow. What started as a small concern could easily have become a serious division within the church. This was a kind of storm inside the community. The apostles could have ignored it. They could have said, we are too busy preaching to deal with this. But instead, they respond with wisdom and humility. They gather the community and ask them to choose seven men who are filled with the spirit and wisdom to take care of this ministry. This was more than simply organizing volunteers. It was the birth of a new ministry in the church, a ministry of service. These men would later be known as the first deacons. What is beautiful here is the spirit behind their work. They are not chosen for status or authority but for service. Their role is to make sure that no one in the community is forgotten, especially the most vulnerable. The result is remarkable. The reading concludes by saying that the word of God continued to spread and the number of disciples increased greatly. When the church serves well, the church grows. The Gospel from the Gospel of John presents a very different storm. The disciples are crossing the Sea of Galilee at night. A strong wind begins to blow, and the waters grow rough. They are rowing hard, struggling against the waves, and fear begins to take hold. Many of these men were fishermen. They knew the sea well. But even experienced fishermen sometimes encounter storms that are beyond their control. They see something astonishing. Jesus walking toward them on the water. Imagine what must have been going through in their mind at that moment. In the darkness, in the middle of a storm, they see a figure coming toward them across the waves. Naturally they are frightened. But Jesus speaks words that immediately calm their hearts. It is, I do not be afraid. And when they welcome him into the boat, the gospel tells us they reach the shore. This story speaks deeply to our own lives. At times we feel like those disciples rowing against strong winds. We try to manage everything ourselves. Our responsibilities, our worries, our struggles, family issues, problems. Sometimes we feel tired, discouraged, or even a little lost. In those moments, we may wonder where God is. But the gospel reminds us that Jesus comes to us right in the middle of those storms. He does not always remove a storm immediately, but he comes to us within it. He walks toward us and says the same words he spoke to the disciples. When we allow Christ into our board, into our lives, something changes. The situation around us may not disappear overnight. It may be the same situation, same problem, same people we are dealing with. But our fear begins to lose its power. The first reading and the gospel together give us two symbols, but powerful reminders. First, faith calls us to serve. The early church faced a problem. But instead of letting it divide them, they responded with generosity and shared responsibility. Second, faith calls us to trust. The disciples could not control the sea, but they could welcome Jesus into their boat. And that is the heart of the message today. Every one of us here experienced storms in life, family struggles, health concerns, uncertainty about the future, tensions in relationships, problems at workplace, problem of finance. We can add our own problems. Each of us could name more storms in our life. But the good news of the Easter season is this Christ is alive. The risen Lord is not distant or absent. He walks toward us even across the rough waters of our lives. Easter does not mean that storms disappear. It means that Christ is with us in the storm. So the question for us today is simple. When Jesus comes toward us, will we recognize Him? And will we welcome Him into our boat? Because when Christ is at the center of our lives, something remarkable happens. The storm may still be there, but our hearts become calmer. Our direction becomes clearer. Unlike the early church, we discover that when Christ leads us, hope continues to grow. May the recent Lord, who walked across the sea, also step into the boards of our lives today, calming our fears, strengthening our faith and helping us move forward with the trust. Let's bring forth our prayers and petitions. We pray for ourselves, for grace, for wisdom, for knowledge. That we may acknowledge Christ in our lives, we may allow him into our boats. We pray to the Lord. We pray for our family members and friends, particularly those who are caught up in the storms of their life, the tension in the world, all that is going on in the world. May we continue to acknowledge the presence of God in us and through us. We pray to the Lord. For all those in our daily TV mass prayer and tensions book, we pray to the Lord.
SPEAKER_05Lord, hear our prayer.
SPEAKER_03For the month of April, our community prays that all who are burdened by grief or discouragement may be lifted up by the light of the risen Christ and be renewed in hope. We pray to the Lord.
SPEAKER_05Lord, hear our prayer.
SPEAKER_03We take a moment of silence to bring to God our own individual needs and prayers. Let us make all these prayers through Christ our Lord. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you, fruit of the earth and work of human hands. It will become for us the bread of life.
SPEAKER_04Blessed we are forever.
SPEAKER_03Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you, fruit of the wine and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink. Sanctify graciously these gifts, O Lord. We pray, and accepting the oblation of this spiritual sacrifice, make of us an eternal offering to you through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you and in your spirit. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just truly right and just our duty and our salvation at all times to acclaim you, O Lord, but in this time above all, to love you at more gloriously, when Christ our Passover has been sacrificed. For he is the true Lamb who has taken away the sins of the world. By dying he has destroyed our death, and by rising restored our life. Therefore, overcome with the paschal joy, every land, every people exalts in your praise, and even the heavenly powers with the angelic host sing together the unending hymn of your glory as they acclaim.
SPEAKER_02Holy holy holy Lord God of host are food of your glory.
SPEAKER_03By sending down your spirit upon them like the dew fall, so they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and under willingly into his passion he took bread, giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice once more, giving thanks. He gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is a chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.
SPEAKER_02You come again.
SPEAKER_03Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life on the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church, spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo, our Pope, Francis, our bishop, and all the clergy and the people you have gained for your own. Remember also, brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all. We pray that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with the blessed Joseph, His Pops, with the Blessed Apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ. Through him and with him and in him. Oh God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever. Amen. At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not in temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever. Amen. The peace of the Lord be with you always and with your spirits. Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
SPEAKER_02Have mercy on us, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
SPEAKER_03Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
SPEAKER_01Please join me now in this act of spiritual communion. My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.
SPEAKER_03Humbly imploring, O Lord, that what your Son commanded us to do in memory of him may bring us growth and charity through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you and with your Spirit. Go forth in peace to love and serve one another.
SPEAKER_05Praise be God.
SPEAKER_01Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this month.
SPEAKER_05We never received Jesus.
