From the St. Ignatius Chapel at the Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Center in Pickering, Ontario. The National Catholic Broadcasting Council presents the Daily TV Mass.
SPEAKER_01Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I'm Father Hank van Meyel. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contribution from Piret Holiday from Hollywood, Florida. This Mass is offered for the repose of the souls of the Bolek and Holiday families and for an end to abortion. Our thanks to Piret for the gift of the televising of this Mass, to the faithful of Canada, the United States, and around the world. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. The peace of the Lord be with you.
SPEAKER_07And with your spirit.
SPEAKER_01And as we have placed ourselves before the Lord, just like Saint Marie of the Incarnation did about 300 years ago, knowing that she was weak, knowing that all goodness and wisdom comes from God. You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord have mercy. You came to call sinners. Christ have mercy. You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us. Lord have mercy. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. And let us pray. O Lord, O God, who led Blessed Marie of the Incarnation to contemplate the wonder of the Trinity, and filled her heart with apostolic zeal, grant that with her as our intercessor and guide, we may live as witnesses to your love, so that those who come to know you, know, love, and serve you, may constantly grow in number. True, O Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.
SPEAKER_02A reading from the Acts of the Apostles. Paul and his companions set sail from Paphos and came to Perga and Pomphylia. John, however, left them and returned to Jerusalem. But they went on from Perga and came to Antioch in Pisidia. And on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down. After the reading of the law and the prophets, the officials of the synagogue sent them a message saying, Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, give it. So Paul stood up and with a gesture began to speak. You Israelites and others who fear God, listen. The God of this people, Israel, chose our ancestors and made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt. And with uplifted arm he led them out of it. For about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness. After he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance for about 450 years. After that, he gave them judges until the time of the prophet Samuel. Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul, son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, who reigned for forty years. When he had removed him, God made David their king. In his testimony about David, God said, I have found David, son of Jeze, to be a man after my heart, who will carry out all my wishes. Of this man's prosperity, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, as he had promised. Before his coming, John had already proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. And as John was finishing his work, he said, What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but one is coming after me. I am not worthy to untie the thong of the sandals of his feet. The word of the Lord.
SPEAKER_04I will proclaim your faithfulness to generation. I declare your stand for a slave is established forever. Your faithfulness is established for sing the goodness I have my servante with my holy horn, I have anointed him. My heart shall always remain with him. My arm shall also strengthen him for singles. My faithfulness and said fast love shall be with him. And in my name is name, shall be exhausted. He shall cry to me. You are my father. My God.
SPEAKER_01After Jesus had washed the feet of the disciples, he returned to the table and said to them, Very truly I tell you, servants are no greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them. I am not speaking of all of you, I know who I have chosen, but it is to fulfill the scriptures. The one who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me. I tell you this before it occurs, so that when it does occur, you will believe that I am He. Very truly I tell you, whoever receives one of whom I sent receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. The Gospel of the Lord. In this gospel reading, there's a whole lot of stuff we can talk about, and especially right after the washing of the feet. And the washing of the feet is then an indication that we're just servants. And this is, I think, especially for priests, for people like me who are in the limelight and who are getting often too much attention. And to know that we're just mere servants, that we're not called to be to a life of privilege. We are just servants. And to keep that in mind always. And also Jesus talks about who, of course, is gonna is gonna betray him. And but he does not mention a name yet, but we know who it is. And Jesus missions uh missions the apostles. Whoever, and very truly I tell you, whoever receives one whom I sent receives me. And he, it's a missioning of the apostles. But the apostles don't know yet until after the resurrection what these words really meant, how they were missioned. And in the first reading of Acts, we have Paul, who also was missioned, who was personally called by God on the road to Damascus, and chosen to evangelize, and to meet the people where they're at. It's so important to know what who we're preaching at, who we are who we're dealing with. And so Paul, he goes, he's in Antioch in Pesida, which is right in the central of Turkey, not the Antioch where we often hear about, which is right on the on the east coast of the Mediterranean. But he meets the people where they're at. He's going to the Jewish community and he preaches about the salvation history, starting in Egypt and explaining how Jesus is a logic continuation of their history. And to put it in context for them, if he preaches to Gentiles, it would be a little bit different. But he meets this congregation and meets them where they're at, and so the congregation can understand today's saint, Saint Marie of the Incarnation, is a different. Of course, he lived about 1500 years later. She lived, was born in 1599, died in 1672, and she was sent to Quebec City in Canada, and which was just a frontier town, maybe 10 houses or whatever, and a filthy mess, real frontier town, and she was sent. And actually, she's a very interesting person because she had very early on in her life, she had visions already. And it's at age seven, she had a vision where Jesus asked her to join, to belong to Jesus, and she said yes. She was married off by her, her parents married her off, a different world than today. She was married off, and in two years her husband died, and she had a son, Claude, and she was left as a widow. But God kept calling, God kept calling. And eventually, in 1631, she entered the earth-line order in France. And while she and she put her son in the care of her family, which was very traumatic for the son. The son, even at one point, tried to, with some friends, take over the monastery and rescue his mother, but it did not work. But she kept having visions, and it became clear with the help of her spiritual director that she was called to the frontiers of Canada in this messy place. And so she went 1639. She left for Quebec City, and incredible hardship. Her the house with a few others, the house they were in got burned down, they had rebuilt. But she again met her congregation where it was where they were at. And so she was opened the school, and also opened the school. The school was available for native girls too, and to teach them the faith, and where there was a great need. And so she labored for 32 years in that frontier town, incredible hardship, incredible hardship. But of course, by the grace of God, God always gives the courage. And she persevered. She wrote over 8,000 letters to France. 8,000, unbelievable. One, basically one a day almost. And mainly to her son, her son, who eventually became a Benedictine monk. And there was a great communication between the two of them. And no doubt her son eventually understood why God called her, called his mother to the frontier towns. But uh incredible example of someone who really followed God no matter what the cost. She was a servant and she was sent, as in a gospel reading, she was sent, she was sent by God to make a difference in the world for so many others. And this is of course our call too. None of us are sent to frontier towns. We are also living uh 300 years, 400 years later, and we have it pretty comfortable in our uh in our uh contemporary world. But nevertheless, God continues to call. God continues to call for people to help out in the Middle East, the Sudan, or wherever there's hardship. And there's people who answer those calls. Of course, we never hear about those people in the news because the news is only about bad news. You never hear about the good news, the good some people do in the world, and there's plenty of good news in the world. Amen. And let us bring our prayers before the Lord. We pray for all those in the Daily TV Mass Prayer Intention Book. We pray to the Lord.
SPEAKER_07Lord your prayer.
SPEAKER_01For the month of April, our community prays that all who are burdened by grief or discouragement may be uplifted by the light of the risen Christ and renewed in hope. We pray to the Lord. With Pope Leo, we pray this month for priests going through moments of crisis in their vocations, that they may find the accompaniment they need and that communities may support them with understanding and prayer. We pray to the Lord. We pray for women and men who are discerning a vocation to vowed religious life, that their hearts may be filled with the abundance of God's love. We pray to the Lord. And for these prayers and the prayers in the silence of our own hearts, we lift them up to you, Lord. Amen. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness you have received the bread we offer you, the fruit of the earth and work of human hands. It will become for us the bread of life.
SPEAKER_08Blessed forever.
SPEAKER_01By the mystery of this water and wine, may we come to share in the divinity of Christ, who humbled Himself to share in our humanity. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink.
SPEAKER_08Blessed be God forever.
SPEAKER_00With humble spirit and contrite heart, may we be accepted by you, Lord, and may our sacrifice in your sight as day be pleasing to you, Lord God. Cleanse me of my sins. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01Pray, my sisters and brothers, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God the Almighty Father.
SPEAKER_08May the Lord accept the sacrifice in your hands for the praise and all of our name of our good and the good of all his holy church.
SPEAKER_01Most merciful God, who were pleased to create and blessed Marie of the Incarnation, the new person in your image, the old having passed away, graciously grant, we pray, that renewed like her, we may offer you the acceptable sacrifice of conciliation through Christ O Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God. For in the saints who consecrated themselves to Christ for the sake of the kingdom of heaven, it is right to celebrate the wonders of your providence by which you call human nature back to its original holiness and bring it to experience on this earth the gifts you promise in a new world to come. And so, with all the angels and saints, we praise you as without end we acclaim.
SPEAKER_04Holy holy holy God heaven and love your glory.
SPEAKER_01Make holy, therefore, these gifts we pray, by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread and giving you thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this all of you and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me. The mystery of faith.
SPEAKER_04We proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your resurrection until you come again.
SPEAKER_01Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo or Pope, Francis or Bishop, the Order Bishop, the clergy, and the entire people you have called your own. Remember also our sisters and brothers who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all. We pray that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with the Blessed Joseph, our spouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son Jesus Christ. Through him and with him and in him, O God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours for ever and ever. Amen. And at the Savior's command, and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say, O Father, who are in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespassed against us, and lead us not into temptation. But evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant our peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen. The peace of the Lord be with you always.
SPEAKER_07And with your spirit.
SPEAKER_01And let us offer each other a sign of peace.
SPEAKER_04Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world. Have mercy on us. Have mercy on us. Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world.
SPEAKER_01Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
SPEAKER_00And may the body of Christ keep us safe for eternal life. May the blood of Christ keep us safe for eternal life.
SPEAKER_03Please join me now in this act of spiritual communion. My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.
SPEAKER_01By the power of the sacrament, Lord, we pray, lead us always in your love through the example of Blessed Marie of the Incarnation, and bring to fulfillment the good work you have begun in us until the day of Christ Jesus, who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. And may Almighty God bless you, Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Amen. Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life. Thanks.
SPEAKER_03Our thanks to our donor for the gift of this mass.
