SPEAKER_02

Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I am Father Peter J. Choi. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contributions from three donors. The first is the estate of Dr. Philomena Pereira and Maximus Pereira of Toronto, for the living and deceased members of the Pereira, Fernando, Peires, Calford, and Gladhill families, and for the souls in purgatory who have no one to pray for them. The second is the late Albert Villancourt from Timmins, Ontario, in memory of his loving wife Lois, who passed away on May 14th, 2016, and in Thanksgiving for the Daily TV Mass. The third are anonymous donors from Curtis, Ontario, for healing of their family, conversion of their children, for deceased family members, and in thanksgiving for blessings received. Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this Mass. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

SPEAKER_07

And with your Spirit.

SPEAKER_02

Brothers and sisters, let us call to mind our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries. I confess to Almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done, in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore I ask, Blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. Glory to God in the highest. And earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory. Lord God, Heavenly King, O God, Almighty Father, Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father. You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. You are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. Let us pray. O God, who assigned Saint Matthias a place in the College of Apostles, grant us through his intercession, the rejoicing at how your love has been allotted to us, we may marry to be numbered among the elect. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.

SPEAKER_01

Amen. Our reading from the Acts of the Apostles. In the days following the Lord's return to heaven, Peter stood up among the believers. Together the crowd numbered about one hundred and twenty persons. He said, Friends, the scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit, through David, foretold concerning Judas, who became a guide for those who arrested Jesus. For he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry. For it is written in the Book of Psalms. Let his homestead become desolate and let there be no one to live in it. And let another take his position of overseer. So one of the men who accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day he was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us to his resurrection. So they proposed two. Joseph called Barcibas, who was also known as a justice, and Matthias. Then they prayed and said, Lord, you know everyone's heart. Show us which one of these two you have chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place. And they cast lots for the two candidates. And the lot fell on Matthias. And he was added to the eleven apostles. The word of the Lord.

SPEAKER_05

Praise the name of the Lord. Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time on and forever The Lord will From the rising of the sun to its name of the Lord is to be praised. The Lord is high above all nations and his glory above the Lord with counting his people who is like the Lord Arcad, who is seated on he Who looks for on the heavens and the earth the Lord will account him his peace. I have chosen you from the world says the Lord to go in the fruit that will be the Lord be with you.

SPEAKER_07

And with your spirit.

SPEAKER_02

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John. Jesus said to his disciples, As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. I have said these things to you, so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing, but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. You did not choose me, but I chose you, and I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another. The Gospel of the Lord. As a number twelve represented the new twelve tribes of Israel. The requirements were that this person had to be a witness to Jesus' ministry from the beginning, from baptism until the ascension. The eleven disciples picked two candidates, Joseph called Varsabbas and Matthias. They prayed to God and cast lots. So that's how Matthias was chosen. This may sound very strange that they used a method like the lottery to make such important decisions, like choosing a new apostle. But come to think of it, we do it too. We do a coin toss before every sports game to see who will get the ball first. It's our way of making sure things are fair, free of favoritism. Both teams have 50-50 chance. But drawing the lot actually goes far beyond trying to be fair. It is mentioned 70 times in the Old Testament and seven times in the New Testament. The Israelites believed that random events, independent of human causes, were seen as a direct expression of God's will. So Joshua cast lots to distribute the promised land among the tribes of Israel. Priests and Levites used lots to decide who would serve in the temple at specific times. And the apostles, after having spent time praying, they cast lots to pick the new twelfth apostle. Although we no longer use a lottery to make important decisions in the church, we too, uh we do, however, recognize that there's no such thing as coincidence, only God instances. Nothing escapes God's knowledge and his plan. Our task is for us to discern God's will and faithfully carry it out. We all know that God doesn't think like us. That's because we can only see the outer ex outward appearance, but God sees what's in the heart. Do you remember when Prophet Samuel was told to go and anoint who will be the new king of Israel? He was impressed by just his older sons, who are tall and handsome. But God rejected all of them. It was then the shepherd boy David was called. Our tendency is to look for natural abilities and talents. But God doesn't need to rely on our ability, He just needs our availability. Jesus reminded us that there's no greater love than the one who lays down his life for his friends. Jesus has done that for us. He laid down his life for us on the cross to save us from our sin and death. And made us his best friends. How about us? Will you put Jesus as your best friend ahead of everybody else and everything else in your life? Some of you may remember me sharing my childhood trauma and father wound from last year. Basically, my father was not only unavailable, he was also abusive to me and the family, which left me with a deep emotional wound. I felt broken. I struggled with anger and depression throughout my childhood. Thankfully, God healed me of my broken heart during my first pilgrimage to Mejgory in 2023. Last year, when I was the main celebrant of St. James Church in Mejgory, I felt God was asking me to share my story with the pilgrims at Mass. So I did. Soon after I came back from Mejgoria, I received an invitation to come and speak at Worcester's Catholic Mass Conference with about 900 men attending. When I shared the story of my childhood trauma and fatherhood wound at the conference, I could tell them my story resonated with a lot of men. God was using me and the story of my brokenness to comfort and heal others. While I was attending the Wooster Catholic Man's Conference, I met Kevin Matthews. He was a legendary radio broadcaster. At the peak of his career, in the 1980s and the 90s, about 10 million listeners tuned into his show weekly. But unfortunately, in 2011 he was let go. On his way home that day, he felt like he needed to go buy flowers for his wife. It was on his way to the flower shop that God led him to the dumpster, where he found the broken statue of Mary discarded there. It was at that moment God spoke to him. He felt compelled to bring that broken statue of Mary home. He tried to get it fixed. And then he realized he was broken just as the broken statue of Mary. He felt the broken statue of Mary reflected his own brokenness. When he met with Pope Leo this year, Pope named the statue as the Mary of the Broken. His story really resonated with me. I've experienced brokenness in my life. Thankfully, God's grace brought me healing. So often we're tempted to think that God only picks those who seem to have it all together. But the truth is, you don't need to be perfect for God to use you as his instrument. God doesn't need your ability. He just needs your permission and your availability. Like God did with me and Kevin Matthews. If you give God the permission, he can use even your brokenness and inability to give glory to God. Remember, there are no coincidences, only God instances. For all those in their Daily TV Mass Prayer Intentions book, we pray to the Lord.

The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks. Lord Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, for you, eternal shepherd, do not desert your flock, but through the blessed apostles, watch over it and protect it always, so that it may be governed by those you have appointed shepherds, to lead it in the name of your Son. And so with angels and archangels, with thrones and dominions, and with all the wholesome powers of heaven, we sing the hymn of your glory as without end, we acclaim.

SPEAKER_05

Holy, holy, holy light God of hearts heaven and earth our father love your glory O Son Lest it is he who comes in the name of the Lord O S.

SPEAKER_02

You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy therefore these gifts we pray, by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewful, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread and giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it. For this is my body, which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it. For this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.

SPEAKER_03

The mystery of faith.

SPEAKER_05

We proclaim your death alone, and profess your common.

SPEAKER_02

Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray the partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo, our Pope, and Francis, our bishop, and all the clergy. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph Herspouse, with the Blessed Apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may marry to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.

SPEAKER_03

All glory and honor is yours forever and ever.

SPEAKER_05

Amen.

SPEAKER_02

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with the will, who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.
