From the St. Ignatius Chapel at the Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Center in Pickering, Ontario. The National Catholic Broadcasting Council presents the Daily TV Mass.

SPEAKER_03

Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I'm Father Roshen Lloyd de Souza. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contribution from St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Fredericton, New Brunswick. This Mass is offered for the parishioners and their priests, Father Suresh Savri Raj and Father Peter Osbund, for all the victims of violence and human trafficking, and for a deep respect for life from conception to natural death. We also pray for all those affected by war in the Middle East and throughout the world and for the gift of peace. The parishioners of St. Mary Magdalene Parish have been faithful supporters of the Daily TV Mass since we first began broadcasting. Our thanks to the parishioners for making it possible for tens of thousands of the faithful across Canada and around the world to share in this celebration. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

SPEAKER_01

And with your Spirit.

SPEAKER_03

As we thank the Lord for the gift of this day and for his bountiful blessings, we ask the Lord to fill us with the Spirit that we may trust in the divine providence. Let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries. I confess to Almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore, I ask Blessed Mary, our virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. Lord, have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Let us pray. May the power of the Holy Spirit come to us, we pray, O Lord, that we may keep your will faithfully in mind and express it in a devout way of life. Through Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.

A reading from the Acts of the Apostles. While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul passed through the interior regions and came to Ephesus, where he found some disciples. He said to them, Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers? They replied, No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit. Then Paul said, Into what then were you baptized? They answered, Into John's baptism. Paul said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was come to come after him. That is, in Jesus. On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. Altogether there were about twelve of them. Paul entered the synagogue and for three months spoke out boldly and argued persuasively about the kingdom of God. The word of the Lord.

SPEAKER_04

Let those who hate him flee before him. As smoke is driven away, so drive them away. As wax melts before the fire, let the wicked perish before God. Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth. But let the righteous be joyful, let them exalt before God, let them be jubilant with joy. Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth, Father of orphans and protector of widows, is God in his holy habitation. God gives the desolate a home to living. Sing to God O kingdoms of the earth Aleluya. If then you have been raised with Christ, speak the things that are above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.

SPEAKER_03

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John. Jesus said to the disciples, I am leaving the world and I am going to the Father. His disciples said, Yes, now you are speaking plainly, not in any figure of speech. Now we know that you know all things and do not need to have anyone question you. By this we believe that you came from God. Jesus answered them, Do you now believe the hour is coming, indeed, it has come, when you will be scattered, each one to his home, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me. I have said this to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world you face persecution, but take courage. I have conquered the world. The gospel of the Lord. In the early days of COVID-19 pandemic, a Catholic nurse working in an ICU in Bergamo, in her significance in the hospital, she was overwhelmed. Patients were arriving faster than they could be treated. Families were not allowed inside and many people faced their final moments alone. The nurse described how fear and exhaustion filled the wards, but also spoke of something deeper. One evening she held the hand of an elderly man who was struggling to breathe. He could not speak much, but he whispered, God is here, isn't he? The nurse nodded even through her tears. She later said that in that moment she realized that while medicine could do much, it was the presence of God that gave true peace. She and a few colleagues began quietly praying before each shift, asking for strength, courage, and the grace to be instruments of hope. We were tired, she said, but we were not alone. This real life experience brings us directly into the heart of today's readings. In the first reading from Acts, Paul meets believers who have faith, but something is missing. They have not yet received the Holy Spirit. Once they receive the Spirit, they are transformed. Their faith becomes alive, courageous and active. That nurse and her colleagues experienced something similar. They started believing in God deeper, but in the midst of crisis, they became more deeply courageous in his presence. It was the Holy Spirit who strengthened them, giving them courage to face each day with compassion to care for the suffering and peace in the middle of chaos. Without the Spirit, faith can remain something we practice occasionally. With the Spirit, faith becomes the strength that sustains us, especially in moments of crisis. In the Gospel of John, the disciples express confidence in Jesus. But Jesus knows that their faith will soon be tested. He tells them clearly, in the world you will have trouble. But take courage. I have conquered the world. The pandemic was a moment of global trouble. It brought fear, isolation, loss, and uncertainty. Many people felt scattered, just as the disciples did when Jesus spoke those words. Even strong believers struggled with questions, anxiety and doubt. And yet, like that nurse holding the patient's hand, many also discovered something profound. Christ was present even in the darkest moments, not always removing the suffering, but giving strength to endure it. This is a kind of peace Jesus speaks about. Not a peace that comes from everything going well, but peace that comes from knowing that He has already conquered the world. Today, these readings invite us to reflect on our own lives. Like the disciples in Acts, we may have faith, but is it alive and active with the Holy Spirit? Do we invite the Spirit into our daily struggles? Or do we rely only on our own strengths? Like the disciples in the gospel, we may speak confidently about our faith. But how do we respond when challenges come? Do we become anxious and scattered? Or do we hold on to Christ's promise? The COVID experience taught the world a powerful lesson. Human strength has limits, but God's grace does not. When everything else seemed uncertain, the presence of God remained constant. So the readings of today have powerful life messages for us. First, invite the Holy Spirit into your life every day. It is the Spirit who gives courage in fear, hope in despair, and strength in weakness. Second, not be surprised by trials. Jesus Himself taught us that difficulties are part of life. But he also assures us that he has already overcome them. Third, be a source of God's presence to others. Like the nurse, a simple gesture, a word, a prayer, a moment of compassion can bring peace into someone in their darkest hour. Finally, hold on to Christ's victory. No matter what we face, his words remain true. Take courage. I have conquered the world. And so in every moment of fear or anxiety, uncertainty, may we remember we are never alone. The Holy Spirit is within us and Christ works with us, bringing strength to fight the situations of life. Let our prayer be, Heavenly Father, we come before you with humble hearts. Grant us grace through your word. Amen. Let us now bring our prayers to our loving God. Let us pray for the church and all its leaders that they may inspire us to come closer to Christ our Lord. We pray to the Lord.

SPEAKER_03

Throughout this month of May, our community prays to follow the example of Mary by offering joy, compassion, and mercy, especially to mothers, grandmothers, and all who lovingly serve those in need. We pray to the Lord. We make these prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation. For through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you, fruit of the earth and work of human hands. It will become for us the bread of life. Blessed be God forever. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation. For through your goodness, we have received the wine we offer you. Through the wine and work of human hands, it will become our spiritual drink. Blessed be God forever. May this unblemished sacrifice purify us, O Lord, and impart to our minds the force of grace from on high through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

SPEAKER_03

The Lord be with you. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just truly right and just our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God. For the Lord Jesus, the King of glory, conqueror of sin and death, ascended to the highest heavens as the angels gazed in wonder. Mediator between God and man, Judge of the world and Lord of hosts, he ascended not to distance himself from our lowly state, but that we, his members, might be confident of following where he, our head and founder, has gone before. Therefore, overcome with paschal joy, every land, every people exalts in your praise, and even the heavenly powers with angelic hosts sing together the unending hymn of your glory as they acclaim.

SPEAKER_04

Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

SPEAKER_03

You are indeed holy, O Lord, and all you have created rightly gives you praise. For through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, by the power and working of the Holy Spirit, you give life to all things and make them holy, and you never cease to gather our people to yourself, so that from the rising of the Son to His setting, a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name. Therefore, O Lord, we humbly implore you, by the same Spirit, graciously make holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration, that they may become the body and blood of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, at whose command we celebrate these mysteries. For on the night he was betrayed, he himself took bread, and giving you thanks, he said the blessing, broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and giving you thanks, he said the blessing, and gave the chalice to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is a chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.

SPEAKER_04

The mystery of faith, we proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your resurrection until you come again.

SPEAKER_03

Therefore, O Lord, as we celebrate the memorial of the saving passion of your Son, His wondrous resurrection and ascension into heaven, and as we look forward to His second coming, we offer you in thanksgiving this holy and living sacrifice. Look, we pray upon the oblation of your church, and recognizing the sacrificial victim by whose death you will reconcile us to yourself, grant that we who are nourished by the body and blood of your Son and filled with His Holy Spirit may become one body, one spirit in Christ. May He make of us an eternal offering to you, so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect, especially with the most blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph, her spouse, with your blessed apostles and glorious martyrs, and with all the saints on whose constant intercession in your presence we rely for unfailing help. May the sacrifice of our reconciliation we pray, O Lord, advance the peace and salvation of all the world. Be pleased to confirm in faith and charity your pilgrim church on earth, with your servant Leo, our Pope, and Francis, our bishop, the Order of Bishops, all the clergy, and the entire people you have gained for your own. Listen graciously to the prayers of this family whom you have summoned before you. In your compassion, O merciful Father, gather to yourself all your children scattered throughout the world, to our departed brothers and sisters, and to all who were pleasing to you at their passing from this life. Give kind admittance to your kingdom. There we hope to enjoy forever the fullness of your glory through Christ our Lord, through whom you bestow on the world all that is good.

SPEAKER_02

Through him and with him and in him. Oh God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever. Amen.

SPEAKER_03

At the Savior's command and formed by the divine teaching, we dare to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily prayer, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power, the glory are yours now and forever. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever.

SPEAKER_02

Amen.

SPEAKER_03

The peace of the Lord be with you always. Let us offer one another the sign of peace.

SPEAKER_04

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.

SPEAKER_03

Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I'm not worthy that you enter unto my room, but only say the word my soul shall be healed.

SPEAKER_01

Please join me now in this act of spiritual communion. My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.

SPEAKER_03

Let us pray. Graciously be present to your people. We pray, O Lord, and lead those you have imbued with heavenly mysteries to pass from former ways to newness of life through Christ our Lord. The Lord be with you. May Almighty God bless you, the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The mass is ended. Let us go in the love of Christ. Thanks be to God.

SPEAKER_01

Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this Mass.
