SPEAKER_01Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I am Father Peter J. Choi. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contributions from two donors. The first is Pirette Holliday from Hollywood, Florida, for the repose of the souls of the Buleck and Holiday family members, and for an end to abortion. The second are anonymous donors. Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this Mass. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
SPEAKER_06Amen.
SPEAKER_01The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
SPEAKER_03And with your spirit.
SPEAKER_01Brothers and sisters, let us call to mind our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries. I confess to Almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done, in what I have failed to do through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore I ask blessed to virgin all the angels and saints and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
SPEAKER_02Amen.
SPEAKER_01Lord have mercy.
SPEAKER_03Lord have mercy.
SPEAKER_01Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy.
SPEAKER_02Lord have mercy.
SPEAKER_01Let us pray. O God, who through the folly of the cross wondrously taught Saint Justin the Martyr, the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ, grant us through his intercession, that having rejected deception and error, we may become steadfast in the faith. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and remains with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.
unknownAmen.
SPEAKER_00A reading from the second letter of Peter. Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, sends this letter to those who have received us a faith as precious as ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ. May grace and peace be yours in abundance in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. Thus He has given us through these things his precious and very great promises so that through them you may escape from the corruption that is in this world because of lust and may become participants of the divine nature. For this very reason you must make every effort to support your faith with goodness and goodness with knowledge and knowledge with self-control and self-control with endurance and endurance with godliness and godliness with mutual affection and mutual affection with love. The word of the Lord.
SPEAKER_05I will protect those who know my name. When they call to me I will answer them.
SPEAKER_01A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark. When the season came, he sent a slave to the tenants to collect from them his share of the produce of the vineyard. But they seized him and beat him, and sent him away empty-handed. And again he sent another slave to them. This one they beat over the head and insulted. Then he sent another, and that one they killed. So he was with many others. Some they beat and others they killed. He has still one other, a beloved son. Finally he sent him to them, saying, They will respect my son. But those tenants said to one another, This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours. So they seized him, killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard. What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants and give the vineyard to others. Have you not read this scripture? The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This was the Lord's doing, and it is amazing in our eyes. When the high priest and the scribes realized that Jesus had told this parable against them, they wanted to arrest him, but they feared the crowd, so they left him and went away. The Gospel of the Lord. Satan summoned four of his leading demons together to come up with a plan to bring more souls to hell. I have an idea, one demon said. People can look around and see the beauty of creation and goodness in people and know that there is a God. Then the second demon suggested, I will go and tell them there's no heaven. But Satan rejected that idea and said, Everybody knows there is life after death and they want to go to heaven. Then let's tell them there's no hell, a third demon suggested. No, conscience tells them their sins will be judged, replied Satan. Quietly, the fourth demon spoke. I will go to earth and tell everybody there is no hurry. Satan said, That's it, that's going to be our plan. One of my favorite quotes is from Tuesdays with Maury. Everybody knows that they are going to die one day, but no one ever believes it. If you can accept the fact that we can die at any moment, then we would live our lives differently. How true. So why do we always put off making radical changes that bring us closer to God? It's because change is difficult. I remember over six months ago when I went for a health checkup and did all kinds of blood tests and results went good. My family doctor sat me down and told me that my blood pressure and cholesterol were too high, and he was concerned. He suggested that I go on medication right away to eliminate the risk of having a heart attack or stroke. This was the result of many years of neglect. Being busy throughout the day, I would often skip meals during the day. By the time I got back to the rectory, I would indulge in an unhealthy diet late at night. Rather than relying on medications, I decided to change my lifestyle for the better and made an appointment with a naturopathic doctor and went on a healthy diet instead. I was given a meal plan. I even had to weigh all the ingredients on a scale. It required strict discipline. I found the first three weeks most difficult, but as weeks progressed, I was losing three to four pounds every week and I ended up losing about 30 pounds. I felt lighter and healthier. Then I started to fit in my daily exercise and it gave me more energy. I did a follow-up health checkup not too long ago, and the results came back normal. I'm healthier now because I made a lifestyle change. My naturopathic doctor told me that many people get discouraged and do not return after the initial consultation. They find having to make lifestyle changes and giving up on their favorite food too difficult. In today's first reading, St. Peter teaches us that we have to support our faith with goodness. In the New American Bible, instead of the word goodness, virtue was used. The catechism of the Catholic Church gives us a very good explanation of what a virtue is. A virtue is a habitual and firm disposition to do the good. It allows the person not only to perform good acts, but to give the best of himself. He pursues the good and chooses it in concrete actions. The goal of a virtuous life is to become like God. Life comes with many choices, from something very trivial to something that is life-altering. When we are making decisions, we are not necessarily seeing them as good versus evil. Even when we choose sin, we are often choosing something we perceive to be good, which is a distorted version of the good and not what God intended. For instance, eating is good. But eating too much can become the sin of gluttony. Loving people is good, but loving someone other than your spouse can become a sin of lust and infidelity. That is why St. Thomas Aquinas explained that sin is not necessarily choosing what is evil, but choosing something that is lesser or temporary good instead of the highest good, which is God. Back in high school days, there was this kid in my class who told our teacher that his dog ate his homework. The teacher was suspicious, but his lie worked the first time. But the second time he told his lie, the same lie, he got in trouble for not only not doing his homework, but also for lying to the teacher. Now, he didn't tell a lie in order to be bad. He told a lie to not get in trouble. If you're trying to avoid getting into trouble, lying seems like a good choice. A better choice would be to start taking personal accountability for your own actions by telling the truth and doing your homework. Going back to what I told you about making a lifestyle choice. Often, when we want to make good choices, we think only of quitting our bad habits. But we can't just quit our bad habit and leave a vacuum. Once we quit one bad habit, then we have to replace it with a good habit. Once we establish one good habit, we can then build another habit. We call this a habit stacking. For example, if you are a night owl like me and want to make a healthy change, you can start to go to sleep at a reasonable hour. Once you establish a good sleeping pattern, then when you get up earlier than you're used to, you can introduce a morning prayer and start your day with a prayer. Sometimes the biggest step we ever take is a baby step in the right direction. Changes don't always happen overnight. Success isn't created by one powerful moment. Instead, it is carved slowly. Just like drops of water carving stone, not by its power, but through relentless consistency. Consistency is what turns ordinary effort into extraordinary results. So let us be consistent and be patient with ourselves and with others. Let us offer our petitions to God who loves us and always hears our prayers. For all those in our daily TV Mass Prayer Intentions book, we pray to the Lord.
unknownLord hear our prayer.
SPEAKER_01During this month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, let us pray for healing in families, that Christ's mercy may renew our hearts and restore our relationships. We pray to the Lord.
SPEAKER_03Lord, hear our prayer.
SPEAKER_01We ask our blessed mother to intercede for us in our needs. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Heavenly Father, we have presented to you all our needs. We ask you to grant them through Christ our Lord. Blessed are your Lord, God of all creation, for through your goodness we receive the bread we offer you, the fruit of the earth and work of human hands. He'll become for us the bread of life. For through your goodness, we receive the wine we offer you, fruit of the vine and work of human hands, you'll become our spiritual drink. Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father. Grant us, we pray, O Lord, that we may celebrate worthily these mysteries, which St. Justin strenuously defended through Christ our Lord.
SPEAKER_02Amen.
SPEAKER_01The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks. Lord Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, for your glorified when your saints are praised. Their very sufferings are but wonders of your might. In your mercy you give ardor to their faith. Through their endurance you grant firm resolve. And in their struggle the victory is yours through Christ our Lord. Therefore, all creatures of heaven and earth sing a new song in adoration, and we with all the hosts of angels cry out, and without end we acclaim.
SPEAKER_05Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of hosts, heaven and earth are fruit of your glory. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
SPEAKER_01You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy therefore these gifts we pray, by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewful, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion. He took bread and giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it. For this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me. Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life in the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray the partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo, our Pope. And Francis, our bishop, and all the clergy. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with blessed Joseph Herspouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages. We may marry to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
SPEAKER_06Through him and with him and in him, O God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever. Amen.
SPEAKER_01At the Savior's command, informed by divine teaching, we dare to say, Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as you await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
SPEAKER_03For the community of the power and the glory are yours. Now, ever.
SPEAKER_01Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever.
unknownAmen.
SPEAKER_01The peace of the Lord be with you always. Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
SPEAKER_05Have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world. Have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
SPEAKER_01Behold the Lamb of God. Behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
SPEAKER_02My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.
SPEAKER_01Let us pray. Refreshed by heavenly food, we humbly implore you, O Lord, that attentive to the teaching of St. Justin the Martyr, we may abide at all times in thanksgiving for the gifts we have received through Christ our Lord. The Lord be with you.
SPEAKER_03And with your spirit.
SPEAKER_01May Almighty God bless you, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Go in the peace of Christ.
SPEAKER_03Thanks be to God.
SPEAKER_02Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this month.
