From the St. Ignatius Chapel at the Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Center in Pickering, Ontario. The National Catholic Broadcasting Council presents the Sunday TV Mass.

SPEAKER_02

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of the Father, the friendship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And in your spirit. Welcome to the celebration of the Sunday TV Mass on the 12th Sunday of Ordinary Time. I am Father Michael Coots. The televising of this Mass is made possible by a contribution from the estate of Carol Olon Palaison. This Mass is offered for the repose of the soul of Carol Orlon Palaison. May her soul and the souls of the faithful departed to the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen. Today is also Father's Day in Canada and in many other countries in the world. We pray for all fathers that they may be granted strength and courage to lead their families to a deeper love of Jesus Christ. We also give thanks for grandfathers whose example and prayers sustain so many families, and we remember in gratitude all fathers who have gone before us with a sign of peace. And now to prepare ourselves to celebrate this Eucharist, let us call to mind our sins and ask the Lord to forgive us. Lord Jesus, you are the Prince of Peace. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. Lord Jesus, you are the light to all nations. Christ have mercy. Lord Jesus, you are the salt of the earth. Lord, have mercy.

SPEAKER_04

Lord have mercy.

SPEAKER_02

May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life. Let us praise God as we say, glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you. We give you thanks for your great glory. Lord God, Heavenly King, O God Almighty Father, Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. You take away the sin of the world, receive our prayer. You are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. Let us pray. Grant, O Lord, that we may always revere and love your holy name, for you never deprive of your guidance those you have set firm on the foundations of your love. We make this prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.

SPEAKER_04

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

A reading from the book of the prophet Jeremiah. Jeremiah cried out, I hear many whispering. Terror is all around. Denounce him. Let us denounce him. All my close friends are watching for me to stumble. Perhaps he can be enticed, and we can prevail against him and take our revenge on him. But the Lord is with me like a dread warrior, therefore my persecutors will stumble, and they will not prevail. They will be greatly ashamed, for they will not succeed. Their eternal dishonor will never be forgotten. O Lord of hosts, you test the righteous, you see the heart and the mind. Let me see your retribution upon them. For to you I have committed my cause. Blessing to the Lord, praise to the Lord, for he has delivered the life of the needy from the hands of evildoers. The word of the Lord.

SPEAKER_03

An alien to my mother's children. It is here for your house that has consumed me, the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me, Lord in your steadfast love. Answer me But as for me, my prayer is to you already at an acceptable time, O God. In the abundance of your steadfast love, answer me with your steadfast help, rescue me. Answer me, O Lord, for your steadfast love is good. According to your abundant mercy, turn to me. Lord in your steadfast love answer me. Let the oppressed see it and be glad. You seek God, let your hearts reap for the Lord is thy need and does not despise his own that are in pass. Let heaven and the earth praise and the seas and everything that moves in Lord in your steadfast law handsome meeting.

SPEAKER_00

Brothers and sisters, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death came through sin, so death is read to all people because all have sinned. But sin is not reckoned when there is no law. Yet death exercised dominion from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sins were not like the transgressions of Adam, who is a type of the one who was to come. But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died through the one man's trespass, much more surely have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abounded for the many. The word of the Lord.

SPEAKER_03

Says Al and you also are to testify.

SPEAKER_02

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. Jesus said to his apostles, Fear no one, for nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not be made known. What I say to you in dark, tell in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim it from the housetop. Do not fear those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul, but rather fear him who can destroy both body and soul in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny, yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your father, and yet even the hairs of your head are all counted. So do not be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows. Every one, therefore, who acknowledges me before humans, I will acknowledge before my father in heaven, but whoever denies me before humans, I will also deny before my father in heaven. The gospel of the Lord. In nineteen seventy, Hoyt Axton composed and wrote the words of that song, Jeremiah was a bullfrog. It was an introduction to a music band, a three-frog band, who sang Joy to the world. Well, our Jeremiah, the prophet in our Old Testament, was not a bullfrog, and he definitely didn't bring joy to the world of the people of Israel. God sent him out to the people of Israel. The people of Israel did not listen to him, and therefore they decided to turn against God. And then there were the usual floods and thunderstorms, but they looked upon it as a punishment for their rejection of God. And so they repented. Jeremiah was vanquished and God was praised. This was the pattern. But Jeremiah was a person who almost predicted doom and gloom and failure. So why did he want to do this? When he was always going to fail. And he tells us the reason. He says, there is a fire burning within me, a fire that cannot be quenched. God seduced me and I allowed God to seduce me because I cannot quench this fire. And then I thought, you and I have been baptized. You and I have also been anointed as prophet and priest. As a prophet, we need to have that fire within us so that we can proclaim, like Jeremiah, that the God is good and God is to be obeyed. And as priests, we can offer prayers and sacrifice for the community. So, what did he actually have to do? Jeremiah had to do two things. One is to remind the people of Israel that God loved them, God cared for them. Even though they were a worthless nation, God held them in his hands. He reminded them of the Exodus experience where God fed them with manna from heaven and water from a rock. But there was another thing as well that Jeremiah had to remind them, and namely that they should love God with all their mind, with all their soul, and not to be taken up with the false gods of the Gentile neighbors that they had, the gods of Baal, who were so attractive with incense and all the pomp and ceremony, but they should keep holy the Sabbath day and obey the Lord itself. They had a choice to make. Which brings us to the letter to the Romans. In the letter to the Romans, it's also convoluted. Adam and Christ's sin and death, God's grace overpowering death. What does it all mean? It simply means that, you know, just because Adam's sin, it does not mean that there was a stain on each one of us. God's grace is greater than sin, and it can conquer even death itself. That Adam's sin was a choice that he made, and you and I have a choice to make today. The fact that Adam made a wrong choice did not become a part of your DNA and my DNA. Namely, we have a choice even now, here and now, to either choose God or not. Moses said to the people of Israel, he says, I present to you life and death. You can choose. And in Psalm 1, we hear those words happy is the man who does not sit in the company of sconners, who does not follow the way of the sinners, who does not follow those who follow the path of the wicked. That is true happiness indeed. It's a choice that you and I make. And in the gospel, Jesus gives the same choice to the apostles. He says, Come follow me. He does not threaten them, he invites them with gentleness and kindness. As he says to them, Come and follow me, for my yoke is meek, for my heart is meek and humble, and my yoke is in light and not burdensome. He tells them Jesus does not is not untransparent. In fact, he tells them, if you follow me, you will be opposed, you will be persecuted, you will be even put to death. So the choice is yours. Are you going to follow me or not? Today we have the celebration of Father's Day. Father's Day, who men and women, I mean, especially men, since we are celebrating Father's Day, who live for Friday. Thank God it's Friday. Eat, drink, and be merry. And then they become parents, the father of a child, and the life changes entirely. I now choose to follow a life that is responsible, a life that is kind, a life that is caring. And so we pray. Bless them with strength, wisdom, and patience in all that they do. Guide them as they lead their families with faith and integrity. Grant them joy in their sacrifices and peace in their hearts. May they always feel your presence besides them, and may they live lives that reflect your love, your unity always and today. We make this prayer. Amen. Would you join me now as we make our act of faith? I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the forgiveness of body and life everlasting. Amen. For all those in our daily TV Mass Prayer Intention Book, we pray to the Lord. During this month of the Sacred Heart, let us pray for healing in families that Christ's mercy may renew our hearts and restore our relationship. We pray to the Lord. Loving and gracious God, we make these prayers in your name, in unity with the Holy Spirit, God our Heavenly Father, who lives and reigns forever and ever.

SPEAKER_04

Amen.

SPEAKER_02

Receive, O Lord, the sacrifice of conciliation and pray, and grant that cleansed by his action, we may make an offering of a heart pleasing to you through Christ our Lord. The Lord be with you and your spirits. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, for we know it belongs to your boundless glory that you came to the aid of mortal beings with your divinity, and even fashioned for us a remedy for out of mortality itself, that the cause of our downfall may become the means of our salvation through Christ our Lord. Through him the hosts of angels adore your majesty. May our voices we pray join with theirs in one chorus of exultant praise as we acclaim.

SPEAKER_03

Oh son him.

SPEAKER_02

You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy, therefore, these gifts we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they may become for us the body and blood of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, once more giving thanks, gave the chalice to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it. For this is the chalice of My blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.

SPEAKER_03

When we heat this breath and drink his car, we proclaim your tattoos until you come hark.

SPEAKER_02

Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo, our Pope, Francis, our bishop, all the clergy, and this entire people of God. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy, welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph a spouse, with the blessed apostles, with Saint Francis Xavier, and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life and praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ. Through him with him and in him, O God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours for ever and ever. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our day, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin, safe from all distresses. We await the blessed hope, the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Now and forever. Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles, I leave you peace. My peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant a peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever. Peace of the Lord be with you always. Wherever you are, let us share a sign of this peace. Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word, and my soul shall be healed. May the body and blood of Christ bring us in all our dear ones unto life everlasting.

SPEAKER_01

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.

SPEAKER_02

Let us pray. Renewed and nourished by the sacred body in the precious blood of your Son, we ask your mercy, O Lord, that we may celebrate with constant devotion and may be a sure pledge of our redemption, we make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you. And with your servants. Go in the peace of Christ to love and serve the Lord and one another.

SPEAKER_04

Thanks be to God.

SPEAKER_01

Our thanks to our donors for the gift of this month.
