SPEAKER_01Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I'm Father Tomasz Skibinsky. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contribution from the estate of Angela Tauchend of Toronto, Ontario. This Mass is offered in memory of Angela for peace within the family and the world and for the souls in purgatory. Our sincere thanks to the late Angela Tauchend for remembering the Daily TV Mass in her will and for making this Mass available to so many across Canada and those around the world. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

SPEAKER_01Brothers and sisters, as we begin this celebration, let us first of all call to mind our failures and our sins and ask the Lord for pardon and mercy so that we may wordily celebrate these holy mysteries. I confess to Almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore I ask Blessed Mary, a virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
SPEAKER_05Amen.
SPEAKER_01Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy. Let us pray. O God, who show the light of your truth to those who go astray, so that they may return to the right path. Give all who for the faith they profess are accounted Christians the grace to reject whatever is contrary to the name of Christ, and to strive after all that does it honor. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit God for ever and ever. Amen.
SPEAKER_02A reading from the book of the prophet Hosea. Thus says the Lord, they made kings, but not through me. They set up princes, but without my knowledge. With their silver and gold they made idols for their own destruction. Your calf is rejected, O Samaria, my anger burns against them, how long will they be incapable of innocence? For it is from Israel an artisan made it, it is not God. The calf of Samaria shall be broken to pieces, for they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind. The standing grain has no heads, it shall yield no meal. If it were to yield, foreigners would devour it. When Ephraim multiplied altars to expiate sin, they became to him altars for sinning. Though I write for him the multitude of my instructions, they are regarded as a strange thing. Though they offer choice sacrifices, though they eat flesh, the Lord does not accept them. Now he will remember their iniquity and punish their sins. They shall return to Egypt. The word of the Lord.
SPEAKER_04They have mouths but do not speak, eyes but do not see. They have ears but do not hear noses but do not smell. They have hands but do not feel feet but do not walk. They make no sound in their throats. Those who make them like them so I trust in them. I am the good shepherd says I love I know my sheep and my name.
SPEAKER_01A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. As Jesus was walking along, a demoniac who was mute was brought to him, and when the demon had been cast out, the one who had been mute spoke, and the crowds were amazed and said, Never has anything like this been seen in Israel. But the Pharisees said, By the rulers of the demons he casts out the demons. Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. When Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. The gospel of the Lord. Today the first reading and the responsorial psalm speak about idols and idolatry, something that was often the downfall of the people of Israel. And this word places before us a powerful and unsettling image. We heard Hosea in the first reading saying, With their silver and glory and gold, they make made idols for their own destruction. And then the psalm was saying, They are their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but they cannot do not speak, eyes, but they do not see, and so on. So this word that speaks about idols, it speaks about those things, in a sense, statutes, images that are made by people, by human hands. They look impressive, they shine with silver and gold, they seem beautiful, strong, valuable, yet they're empty. They cannot speak, they cannot hear, they cannot love, they cannot save. And then comes the most frightening, I believe, sentence. It says, Those who make them are like them, and so are all who trust in them. In other words, we become like what we worship. If a person worships money, eventually his heart becomes cold, like metal, like the coins. If someone worships power, the heart becomes hard and incapable of mercy. If someone worships pleasure alone, little by little the soul loses the ability to recognize God. And this is the tragedy of idolatry. Idols do not simply exist outside of us, they solely transform us into themselves. The psalm describes idols as blind, deaf, mute, and unable to walk. Is this not also the condition of many hearts today? Eyes that no longer see the suffering of others, ears that no longer hear the cry of the poor, mouths that no longer speak the truth, hands that no longer know how to bless, forgive, or help, feet that no longer walk toward God. And the danger is not only for other people. The Word of God today asks each one of us, what do I truly put my trust into? In what? Where is my security? What occupies my heart more than God? Modern idols are often invisible. They are not statutes in temples. They are success, comfort, reputation, control, technology, passions, self-sufficiency, and so on. Sometimes even the religious people can create idols, worshipping appearances, routines, or themselves instead of the living God. But the gospel reveals God who is not an idol, but a father, father who loves and cares for his children. Idol have eyes but they cannot see. But Christ sees, for example, today the man that was possessed by demons, just as he had seen many other people, like when he ha saw Zacchaeus, who was up on a tree, or the widow in her poverty, or Peter in his tears. The idols of the nations have mouths but they cannot speak. Christ, the gospel says, went about all the cities and villages, teaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom. Idols have no hands and cannot touch, or have hands, but they cannot touch anyone. But Jesus touches, He was to touch the leper, He was to touch the person who was blind, He lifted paralyzed, and so on. Idols have feet but they cannot walk. But Christ walks from place to place, from village to village, walks towards the sinners. And finally he walked also the way to Calvary carrying the cross. And it was this cross, and on that cross, something astonishing happened. In the cross, the world saw weakness, silence, maybe an apparent defeat. Yet it was there. Yeah, there. The true God revealed his power. Not the power of gold or domination, but the power of love. The idols of this world promised life but produce death. Christ accepted death and has given us life. So, brothers and sisters, every day we are becoming like something. There are so many role models we can say in this world. But the question is like whom? Whom do we become like? If we worship idols, our hearts become smaller, colder, emptier. But if we follow Christ daily, welcoming him in the word, in the Eucharist, then gradually we become like him, able to see with compassion, hear with mercy, speak with truth, walk in faith, and love with a living heart. St. Augustine said once that the human heart is restless until it rests in God. No idol can satisfy the deepest hunger of the human soul. Only the living God can. So today, let us ask the Lord to break the idols that might be hidden in my heart, to remove whatever makes me spiritually blind or deaf, and to give each one of us a living heart, a heart that resembles the heart of Christ. And now with confidence, let us offer to our fathers our prayers and our petitions. Let us pray for the church that she may always proclaim the good news of salvation to every person on the face of the earth. We pray to the Lord.

SPEAKER_01Almighty Father, we ask that you may welcome these prayers that we've expressed, all those needs that remain silent in our hearts, and that you may fulfill them all according to your will. We ask you this through Christ, our Lord. Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you, fruit of the earth and work of human hands. It will become for us the bread of life. By the mystery of this water and wine will you come to share in the divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our humanity. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you, fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will become our spiritual drink.

SPEAKER_01With humble spirit and contrite heart, may we be accepted by you, O Lord, and may our sacrifice in your side this day be pleasing to you, O Lord God. Lord Oshway, my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father. Look upon the offerings of the Church, O Lord, as she makes her prayer to you, and grant that when consumed by those who believe, they may bring ever greater holiness through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts.

SPEAKER_01Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, for just as through your beloved Son you created the human race, so also through him with great goodness you formed it anew. And so it is right that all your creatures serve you, all the redeemed praise you, and all your saints with one heart bless you. Therefore we too extol you with all the angels, as in joyful celebration we acclaim. You are indeed holy, O Lord, and all you have created rightly gives you praise. For through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, by the power and working of the Holy Spirit, you give life to all things and make them holy, and you never cease to gather a people to yourself, so that from the rising of the Sun to its setting a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name. Therefore, O Lord, we humbly implore you, by the same Spirit, graciously make holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration, that they may become the body and blood of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, at whose command we celebrate these mysteries. For on the night he was betrayed, he himself took bread, and giving you thanks, he said the blessing, broke the blad, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and giving you thanks, he said the blessing and gave the chalice to his disciples, saying, Take this all of you and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me. Therefore, O Lord, as we celebrate the memorial of the saving passion of your Son, His wondrous resurrection and ascension into heaven, and as we look forward to His second coming, we offer you in thanksgiving this holy and living sacrifice. Look, we pray upon the oblation of your church, and recognizing this sacrificial victim by whose death you will to reconcile us to yourself, grant that we who are nourished by the body and blood of your Son and filled with His Holy Spirit may become one body, one spirit in Christ. May He make of us an eternal offering to you, so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect, especially with the most blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph, her spouse, with your blessed apostles and glorious martyrs, and with all the saints, on whose constant intercession in your presence we rely for unfailing help. May this sacrifice of our reconciliation we pray, O Lord, advance the peace and salvation of all the world. Be pleased to confirm in faith and charity your pilgrim church on earth. Would your servant Leo our Pope and Francis our bishop, the order of bishops, all the clergy, and the entire people you have gained for your own. Listen graciously to the prayers of this family whom you have summoned before you. In your compassion, O merciful Father, gather to yourself all your children scattered throughout the world. To our departed brothers and sisters, and to all who are pleasing to you at their passing from this life, give kind admittance to your kingdom. There we hope to enjoy forever the fullness of your glory through Christ our Lord, through whom you bestow on the world all that is good.
SPEAKER_00Through him and with him and in him, O God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours for ever and ever.

SPEAKER_01At the Savior's command and form by divine teaching, we dare to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign for ever and ever. The peace of the Lord be with you always. And with your spirit. Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

SPEAKER_01Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
SPEAKER_03Please join me now in this act of spiritual communion. My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.
SPEAKER_01Let us pray. Having consumed these gifts, we pray, O Lord, that by our participation in this mystery, its saving effects upon us may grow through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you. May Almighty God bless you, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Let us go in peace.
