SPEAKER_05Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I'm Father Hank van Mijel. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contribution from three donors. The first are anonymous donors from Ottawa, Ontario, for the physical and spiritual healing of their family and for the repose of the souls of family members. The second is an anonymous donor from Red Deer, Alberta for their personal intentions. The third is Maria Mallow from Mississauga, Ontario, in thanksgiving for healing of her granddaughter for the return of her family to the faith, and for the living and deceased members of the Mallow family. SPEAKER_05And as we have placed ourselves before the Lord on this Wednesday, again recalling our own weakness, our own need for God's guidance. You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord, have mercy. You came to call sinners, Christ have mercy. You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us. Lord have mercy. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. And let us pray. Show favor, O Lord, to your servants, and mercifully increase the gifts of your grace that made fervent in hope and faith and charity, they may be ever watchful in keeping your commands. True, O Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.
SPEAKER_00Amen. A reading from the book of the prophet Hosea. Israel is a luxuriant vine that yields its fruit. The more his fruit increased, the more altars he built. As his country improved, he improved his pillars. Their heart is false. Now they must bear their guilt. The Lord will break down their altars and destroy their pillars. For now they will say, We have no king, for we do not fear the Lord. And the king, what could he do for us? Samaria's king shall perish like a chip on the face of the waters. The high places of Avon, the sin of Israel shall be destroyed. Thorn and thistle shall grow up on their altars. They shall say to the mountains, cover us, and to the hills, fall on us. Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap steadfast love, break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, that he may come and reign righteousness upon you. The word of the Lord.
SPEAKER_02Glory in his holy name. Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his presence continually. Remember the wonderful works he has done, his miracles and the judgments he uttered. Seek always the face of the Lord, all offspring of his servant Abraham, children of Jacob, his chosen ones. He is the Lord our God, his judgments are in all the years. Repent and believe the good news.
SPEAKER_05These twelve Jesus sent out with the following with the following instructions. Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, proclaim the good news. We have here the calling of the twelve apostles, and Jesus just before this, he says, The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few. And Jesus, he could see, he knew he was called to the house of Israel, and he could see how desperate people were, how desperate people were for God, and to get anything of God. And in his time, Israel was not a pretty place on the Roman occupation, and there was plenty of violence. But and so the late the in his time and any time during history, the harvest has been great and the laborers are few, and nothing has changed to this day. In the first reading, we have Hosea, he's also called the prophet of doom. And he just looks around, he's in the northern kingdom, Israel, and he just looks around and he sees the way of the people. And his reading starts off with Israel is a luxuriant vine that yields its fruit. And then he goes on. And he sees how wealthy Israel is, how the wealthy the northern kingdom is, and how people are kind of going to other gods, and they they find their own way of doing things. And so nothing has changed. Likewise in our secular world, so many we live, we are so prosperous, and so many people have lost the faith, have walked away from the faith, because there is for most people there is no need to have a deep faith and to really pray to God to assist them. I call myself lucky because 25 years ago or so my life came to a head and I had to make big changes in my life. But if I look back even a generation, even my parents' time, my parents who survived the Second World War, and it was pretty nasty, and they had to go underneath just to pray and to ask God for deliverance, asking God to stay safe, especially when there was a lot of violence. And so I kind of lament on my part too how so many have lost the faith in our society, have gone after false gods, the gods of entertainment, personal entertainment. How many people spend hours on end every day for personal entertainment, watching movies, or the social media spend so much time on social media which does absolutely nothing for the soul. The texting, uh back and forth, it can really ruin a lot of lives because often things are said which should not be said. And so we also lost our way in our culture. And and so how do we come back? It's not an easy thing only by God's grace. But if I I propose if we fall on hard times, and I'm not praying for another war, okay? There's plenty of wars and there's plenty of violence in our society. But but when we fall on hard times, then probably the churches will be full again. And I've I witnessed this in my street ministry, uh, in my formation. I saw when I was had the privilege to be in Jamaica for a while, West Kingston, not a safe neighborhood, the local gang kept us safe. But how people were so spiritual, how people really relied on God, because if you don't have nothing, there's only God left. And so the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius of Layola also fit in that. If one does sometimes does major conversion, if someone has a deep spiritual experience, when God really touches someone's heart. And uh and so I'm one of the lucky ones, and today I used to have a business and all of that, and it's all gone, and I'm happier than ever. But so that this is one way God can work, but if if a heart's not open, it is also the Ignatian spiritual exercises can lead a person to more be more to live a more centered life, a centered life with God. And so the Ignatian spiritual exercises is very much we have the examine, the daily reflection, looking back at our relationships and looking how where God is in our lives. And and to look also at what is not good in our lives, to to look at our relationships and those uh the encounters we have in the day which are not life-giving, to say what happened there, what happened there, what can I do to correct it? Maybe I should apologize, or whatever I have to do to make it better. And especially if someone really is looking for a vocation, and a vocation can be a married life, religious life, uh, uh the Austin priesthood or whatever, then the full spiritual exercises of Saint Ignatius, the what they call the 30-day retreat, can be very helpful when a person is asked to pray with their own life. And Saint Ignatius uses different prayers for every day to work with it. And it's based actually, they call the four-week spiritual exercises. It's not exactly four weeks, not seven days each exercise, but the first one is looking at the world. Look at the world and look at the meshiness of the world. Look at the meshiness of all our own lives, of course, to come to a deeper understanding of our own sinful nature and our own sin history, but also of the corporate sin, how we live in a meshy world. The second week is very much praying with the life of Jesus, the scripture. Scriptural reading with the life of Jesus. And Saint Ignatius will throw different exercises in there: praying for humility or praying with what they call three classes of men. Those who want to come to God but never take any action, those who come to God, but they say, well, later on, and those who really want to convert their lives. But it is about really coming in touch with our passions, with our little wills. And uh actually, fasting is one of the ways of also coming in touch with our passions. Of course, on a Friday, so often I get a real kick out of it that we quote fast and have and eat fish instead of meat. Well, and I really love my fish and chips, but so I'm hardly fasting, it's just cultural. But to really fast, to really say I will not do this or that. I will not look at my social media once a week for a whole day. I will not engage with that. That is real fasting, and that is coming in touch with our passions, with our little wants in our lives, or to say, I will not eat dessert for a week or five days or whatever, and to say I really like my dessert, but I'm gonna control my passion. It is about conquering ourselves, spiritually conquering ourselves instead of running after all the different uh wants and the latest fashions and so on, and and to have simple uh uh table conversations about nothing to say, I traveled here, I traveled this, and see what I had and see my latest photo and all of that. It really takes us away from God. And so it does take a lot of work to center ourselves in God and especially when we have hardships, then we come closer to God, hopefully. We come to that choice, either accept or I run away from my suffering and I don't want to have anything to do with God. And we each have that choice. Amen. So let us bring our prayers before the Lord. We pray for all those in a daily TV Mass Prayer Intention book. We pray to the Lord.

SPEAKER_05We pray for all who are discerning a vocation to merit life, religious life, or the Yosan priesthood, that they may have the courage to be countercultural and be persons who fill who fully desire to give their lives as an offering to God. We pray to the Lord. And for these prayers and the prayers in the silence of our own hearts, we lift them up to you, Lord. Amen. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you, fruit of the earth and work of human hands. It will become for us the bread of life.

SPEAKER_05By the mystery of this water and wine, may we come to share in the divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our humanity. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink.

SPEAKER_05Humble spirit and contrite heart may we be accepted by you, O Lord, and may your sacrifice in your sight this day be pleasing to you, Lord God. Wash me, O Lord, for my iniquities, cleanse me of my sins. Thank you. Pray, my sisters and brothers, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.

SPEAKER_05O God, who in the one perfect sacrifice brought to completion various offerings of the law, accept, we pray, the sacrifice from your faithful servants, and make it holy as you bless it, bless the gifts of Abel, so that what each has offered to the honor of your majesty may benefit the salvation of all through Christ or Lord.

SPEAKER_05Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God. For just as through your beloved Son you created the human race, so also through him with great goodness you formed it anew. And so it is right that all your creatures serve you, all the redeemed praise you, and all your saints with one heart bless you. Therefore we too extol you with all the angels as in joyful celebration we acclaim.
SPEAKER_02Holy holy holy Lord God of hosts heaven and follow your glory in the highest Hana and the Hess Have comes in the name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest Hosanna.
SPEAKER_05You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy therefore these guests we pray, by sending down your spirit upon them like the dofoe, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion. He took bread and giving you thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this all of you and eat of it, for this is my body which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took Took the chalice and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me the mystery of faith.
SPEAKER_02When we eat this bread and drink this carb, we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come again.
SPEAKER_05Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the challenge of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo or Pope, Francis or Bishop, the other bishops, the clergy, and the entire people you have called your own. Remember also our sisters and brothers who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy, welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with the blessed Joseph, our spouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son Jesus Christ. Through him and with him and in him, O God, Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, O glory and honor is yours for ever and ever. Amen. And at the Savior's command, informed by divine teaching, we dare to say, O Father, who are in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day your daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespassed against us.
SPEAKER_04And lead us not in temptation.
SPEAKER_05But deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
SPEAKER_03The kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever.
SPEAKER_05Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant our peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever. Amen. The peace of the Lord be with you always. And let us offer each other a sign of peace. Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

SPEAKER_01Please join me now in this act of spiritual communion. My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.
SPEAKER_05And let us pray. Graciously be present to your people, we pray, O Lord, and lead those you have imbued with heavenly mysteries to pass from former ways to newness of life. Through Christ, O Lord. The Lord be with you. And may Almighty God bless you, Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Amen. Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.
