And brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries. You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. You came to call sinners, Christ have mercy. You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us. Lord have mercy. And may Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. And let us pray. O God, who chose the Blessed Virgin Mary, foremost among the poor and humble, to be the mother of the Savior. Grant we pray that following her example we may offer you the homage of sincere faith and place in you all our hope of salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.

When the morning dawns, they perform it, because it is in their power. They covet fields and seize them, houses and take them away. They oppress householder and house, people and their inheritance. Therefore, thus says the Lord, Now I am devising against this family an evil from which you cannot remove your necks, and you shall not walk haughtily, for it will be an evil time. On that day they shall take up a taunt song against you, and wail with bitter lamentation, and say, We are utterly ruined. The Lord alters the inheritance of my people, how he removes it from me. Among our captors he parcels out their out our fields. Therefore you will have no one to cast the line by lot in the assembly of the Lord. The word of the Lord.

Let them be caught in the schemes they have devised. Do not forget the For the wicked boast of the desires of their heart. Those greedy forging curse and renounce the Lord. Under their tongues are mischief and iniquity. They sit in ambush in the villages. In hiding places they murder the innocent. Do not forget the porde Hallelujah. God was in Christ to reconcile the world to himself, and the good news of reconciliation he has entrusted to us.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. Many crowds followed him, and he cured them all. And he ordered them not to make him known. This was to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah. Here is my servant, whom I have chosen, my beloved, with whom my soul is well pleased. I will put my spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles. He will not wrangle or cry aloud, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets. He will not break a bruised reed or quench a smoldering wick until he brings justice to victory. And in his name the Gentiles will hope. The gospel of the Lord. And so he has this kind of creative, artistic way of presenting the gospel or different things of the faith. And when we were in formation, he created this sculpture that was a circle, and the circle was all different animals, all in this circle. And each animal had some sort of weapon. And each animal was facing the back of the one in front, and unfortunately, plunging the weapon into the person in the back. And it was this very, yeah, very real image of revenge and this circle that just continues to go. That this person hurts this person, and this person hits this person. That whole imagery of hurt people hurt people. And I it's still there, it's still in my mind of seeing this circle with all of these animals, and then it just never ends. This vicious circle never ends, never ends, never ends. But then he made another sculpture with the same concept, the same idea, the same animals all around. But at the second sculpture, this last animal dropped his weapon and turned around and faced the one who was about to do him harm in this sign of forgiveness, the sign of peace, the sign of this has to stop. And the only way that the circle of vicious circle of revenge, of envy, of all of these things stops is when somebody stands and faces and pardons and brings peace. And obviously it's a Christ-like figure. For him, that was his way of depicting Jesus. And in today's gospel, we see that the Pharisees went out and conspired against Jesus to destroy him. And what does Jesus do?

Okay, he departs from that place, but he continues his ministry of healing. He went to the crowds, the crowds followed, he went to them and he cured them all. So Jesus, this this person, right, this one who stands up against evil in the face of death, in the face of sin, in the face of all of the things that were thrown at his way. And he stands up and he brings peace and he brings healing and he brings reconciliation. Because we know from the prophet of Micah, this is our world. This is the world that we see, the world that has planning iniquity, working out evil, coveting, seizing, taking away, cheating. There's a lot of that in our world. And it will continue unless we have people who stand and say, No, I won't become like that. I won't become like them. And to stand up, but it's hard, it's hard to do without grace. I would say it's impossible to do without grace. And so without prayer, without entering into relationship with the one who is peace, the one who brings forgiven, the one who brings reconciliation, unless we spend time and pray and enter into relationship with him, it will be difficult. Because our whole life, I have now I have nieces and I have nephews, and I'm watching them grow up and I'm seeing them from a very young age. Learn how to covet, right? Learn how to take from other people and say this is mine. Learning how not to share. Or even in board games, my little nephew, right, how early they learned how to cheat so that they can win. And it's something that's ingrained in us because of original sin, because of the society we grow up in, all of these things. And so this way of reconciliation, the way of peace, has to be learned, right? It has to be accepted. And this is the mission of Christians. This is the mission that Jesus entrusted to us, that he was the one bringing reconciliation, and yet we are the ones who now have to live it out and bring it into the day-to-day world. So Jesus is the one who faces and who brings reconciliation and brings healing. And so the whole month of June, right, last month, we had all the devotions to the sacred heart. The heart of Jesus that is meek and humble. In July, we can ask ourselves, after all those devotions, after all that month, is my heart meek and humble? Am I living reconciliation? Am I bringing peace to those around me? Am I learning how to forgive? It's not something that's going to come easy, it's not something that comes overnight, but through prayer, through grace, through the sacraments, from learning that I am forgiven, that I am forgiven, I am reconciled through Jesus, that I can then learn how to do that with other people. And so hopefully that devotion to the sacred heart can pass over into our daily life so that we can really live with this meek and humble heart. And recognizing that on this Saturday, we celebrate and we honor and we revere our blessed mother. Her life was difficult. Obviously, we don't know from scripture exactly what's going on, but we know that the people knew. The people kept saying, Is not is Jesus not the one, the carpenter's son? Is he not the son of Mary? There's kind of this disdain or this kind of envy or whatever it was about the blessed mother, her family. There was something off, there was jealousy, there was comparison, there was little things, and yet it seems that she took everything in humility, with courage, in silence, from the moment of the annunciation all the way to the cross, to the Pentecost, and then her assumption into heaven. So we can really look to our blessed mother and ask her. She's the one who raised Jesus. The sacred heart of Jesus has a lot to do with the Immaculate Heart of Mary. And so we can ask our blessed mother to intercede for us. We can ask her to help us to be humble, to learn how, in the face of persecution, in the face of ridicule, in the face of whatever we're going through in our life, that we can learn. We can learn to forgive, we can learn to reconcile. Because I think it's one of the one of the ministries of our church that is given to us at baptism, that often it's hard to do or it's hard to live out, that it's easy to maybe to go to church and to say the words, but then in our families, right? How many families have broken relationships? How many office places? I work a lot in schools, and I can see that it's hard for young people to accept each other. It's hard to get over the comparison, the envy, all the things that uh steal our peace and create wounds. And then that begins, and then the next person is hurt, and then the next person after that. And so we need to ask for the grace and to really pray for our church and pray for Christians throughout the world that we can accept that this is this is a difficult teaching. It's not fair that somebody hurts me and I have to stand up and say I forgive you. It's not easy that somebody cheats me or somebody does something to me and I have to forgive. But we've been really given a responsibility to live that out, right? A great responsibility to live like Jesus. And all his graces, his entire heart is given to us in the Eucharist. So we don't have to do it alone, and this is not a self-help program. It's a moment of surrender to saying, I cannot do this on my own, but I've been given all the graces, I've been given all the sacraments, I've been given the community, I've been given the word of God that I can dive into the heart of Jesus, I can receive the heart of Jesus from the altar, and I can allow that grace to transform me little by little, and then I become a person of reconciliation, I become a person of healing, I become a person who brings peace. But it's not gonna happen on our own. So I pray for myself that I may continue to dive into the heart of Jesus and allow his heart to change mine. But really praying for the church that we can be witnesses to reconciliation, we can be witnesses to peace. And of course we're gonna make mistakes. There's gonna be times where we say, no, I don't want to forgive. But may we never lose the desire, or at least the desire to enter in and to meet this person of Jesus and say, okay, I know I'm not there yet. I know it's hard for me to forgive this person, but I know Jesus would. And so every day, every day, turning to Jesus, asking him for grace, so that we can become a person of healing like he was, a person like healing that he is, you know, alive. And so let us take a few moments and really ask the Lord to bless us today, and may we be people of reconciliation. And let us bring our prayers to God, who created the earth and its fullness. For the Holy Catholic Church, as it continues to speak out against all that would destroy human dignity, human rights, and human life, we thank you, Lord. Let us pray to the Lord.

For those whose lives are plagued by doubt and despair, that they may have God's grace to help them. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For the children of the world, may they be protected from hunger, abuse, illiteracy, disease, neglect, and violence, and allowed to enjoy light-hearted and carefree childhoods, gently molded by God's law and loving discipline. Lord, hear our prayer. And God of heaven and earth, you reward those with clean hands and pure hearts. In our unworthiness, we bring our prayers to you through Christ our Lord. It will become for us the bread of life. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you, fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will become our spiritual drink. And pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father. Receive, O Lord, the offerings of our devotion, and grant that we who celebrate your son's work of boundless charity may through the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary be confirmed in love of you and of our neighbor through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks. Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, and to praise, bless, and glorify your name, in veneration of the blessed ever Virgin Mary.
