And as we have placed ourselves before the Lord on this Tuesday, again recalling our own weakness, our own need for God's guidance. You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord have mercy. You came to call sinners, Christ have mercy. You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us. Lord have mercy. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. And let us pray. Almighty, ever living God, grant that we may always conform our will to yours and serve your majesty and sincerity of heart. True, O Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

A reading from the book of the Prophet Jeremiah. The Lord said to me, You shall say to the people this word, let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease. For the virgin daughter, my people, is struck down with a crushing blow, with a very grievous wound. If I go out into the field, look, those killed by the sword, and if I enter the city, look, those sick with famine. For both prophet and priest apply their trade throughout the land and have no knowledge. Have you completely rejected Judah? Does your heart loathe Zion? Why have you struck us down so that there is no healing for us? We look for peace, but find no good, for a time of healing, but there is terror instead. We acknowledge our wickedness, O Lord, the iniquity of our ancestors, for we have sinned against you. Do not spurn us for your name's sake. Do not dishonor your glorious throne. Remember, and do not break your covenant with us. Can any idols of the nations bring rain? Or can the heavens give showers? It is not you, O Lord our God. We set our hope on you, for it is you who do all this, the word of the Lord.

Will you be angry forever? Do not remember against us iniquities of our ancestors, and let your compassion come speedily to meet us, for we are proper. For the glory of your name, O Light. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. Jesus left the crowds and went into the house, and his disciple approached him, saying, Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field. He answered, The one who sows, for the the one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world. And the good seed are the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of all ages, and the reaper are the angels. Just as the weeds are collected and burned up in with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, and they will throw them into the fire furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of the Father. Let anyone with ears listen the gospel of the Lord. The parable of the good seed, the wheat, and the bad seed, the wheat is a nice explanation Jesus gives. But it's a little bit more complicated than that. In the parable, just a little bit before this explanation, he also says the workers want to pull up the weeds out of the field. And he says, no, no, no, no, you're going to do too much damage. But also, in although not in real life, but but spiritually, the bad seed, the weeds, can also become good seed and produce a big harvest. And it is about conversion. And it it is it's not something to pray with. But before the final judgment, we each have many choices. We each have choices to write in a way or to fall away. And actually in the first reading of Jeremiah, we have Jeremiah, he has to give that bad message to the Jewish community that there will be doom. And it was very simple. He could see that he just had to look over the walls of Jerusalem and could see how the Babylonians would come. But he also, and of course, many bad prophets who were there and who said, Oh yeah, don't worry, everything will be fine, and so on. Sounds very familiar. And we see how Jeremiah at the end of the first reading, he really it's a lament, or I could say a prayer to God that God delivers, as Psalm said. A prayer for deliverance of God, as the people are blind. And the people can be blind. I can be blind. I just have to look at my own life. In the 80s, 1980s, I had a business, and the business just grew. Year by year, it just doubled in business. And a good prophet, my accountant, said, Hank, slow down, slow down, develop that business. But of course, my ego and the world, the prophets of business, they say, no, no, no, you've got to have a big business, you've got to have a big business. And the more you sell, you know, the better you are. But, and of course, I listened to them. I did not listen to the common sense. And so, in the end, I never went bankrupt, but I was pretty well there because my ego was in the way. And that is also in our spiritual life, how our ego can be in the way. And in Jeremiah's time, the ego was in the way of the Jewish leadership and so on. And so it is so important to learn from our mistakes, even when we're doing all the wrong things, even if we are born, say, in a criminal family, hopefully not, but if we are and we learn all kinds of bad habits, there's always time for conversion and become a good seed, and become and and to deliver a harvest. We just have to look at at our saints. St. John of God is one of the examples who was who was a soldier and and who did all kinds of nasty things under Charles V in the army. He raped, murdered, did whatever, but there is a conversion. A bad seed who became uh who produced a harvest, a good harvest. And it's good stuff to pray with. That there is always a time for conversion, even on a deathbed. And we can go on with examples and examples, but it is also good for us to pray with. How is my life journey with God? How is there conversion in my life? Am I producing a harvest? Am I the good weed? Or am I moving slowly? Am I being pulled more to the world slowly? And to the world of narcissism, it's all about me and forgetting about our neighbors. And that's what this is about. When we are in God, it is not about ourselves anymore. It's about us. And we want to produce and we want to have people happy around us and we want to help people who need assistance. And actually, today on the universal calendar we have an American, a blessed Stanley Francis Rother, that was assassinated in 1981. And obviously a good seat. He uh he was well, obviously he was a priest, and in his studies they almost did not want to ordain him because he was very good with his hands, but his studies were not that good, especially Latin studies in those days. Uh his Latin was pretty bad. I very much can relate to that because my I'm just a mediocre student, always have been, but and I'm good with my hands. That's why probably I'm here at Manresa because I'm a hands-on kind of guy. But uh Bishop Victor Reed from Oklahoma City kind of saw what his forematers did not see, and he did see a good priest, and he ordained him. And so in 1968, Stanley Rother he asked to be sent to Guatemala and as a missionary, and he, although he could not study in seminary, he did learn the local language to heal. I hope I pronounced that right, but he learned it and he was very much loved. Worked for many years, and uh actually and things were not going good, the death squads and the you know the communist insurgents and so on. And in 1981 he briefly went back to the United States and for a visit and because it was getting dangerous there. But when he was there, he made up his mind that he had to go back. The shepherd does not leave the sheep, and the shepherd is not gonna, and that's his words, the shepherd cannot run at the first sign of danger. And so he went back and he was murdered by a death squad. And actually, that year ten priests were murdered by death squads in Guatemala. And obviously, he was very much loved by the people. His body was sent back to the United States, but they kept his heart in Guatemala because he was a man of a big heart, and he was that uh the the weed, the good seed was produced a hundredfold. And it's good stuff to pray with and and to uh to encounter those examples where people really are inspired by the Holy Spirit and to give their life. And so, am I giving my everything to God? Is my life about myself, or am I one of the weeds, or am I a person for others? It's a very simple, very simple choice, but it's something we have to look at daily as we pray and we assess our own journey here on earth. Amen. Let us bring our prayers before the Lord. We pray for all those in the daily TV Mass Prayer Intention Book. We pray to the Lord.

As a community prayer, let us give thanks for grandparents and for elders like St. Joachim and Anne, who nurture faith and family across generations with quiet strength. We pray to the Lord. Lord hear our prayer. With Pope Leo, we pray this month for respect and protection of human life in all its stages, recognizing it as a gift from God. We pray to the Lord.

Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks. Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, through Christ our Lord, in him you have been pleased to renew all things, giving us all a share in his fullness. For though he was in the form of God, he emptied himself, and by the blood of his cross brought peace to all creation. Therefore he has been exalted above all things, and to all who obey him has become the source of eternal salvation. And so, with angels and archangels, with thrones and dominions, and with all the hosts and powers of heaven, we sing the hymn of your glory as without end we acclaim. You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the doofall, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion. He took bread and giving you thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this all of you and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you. In a similar way when supper was ended, he took the chalice and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this all of you and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me The mystery of faith. Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the challenge of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo or Pope, Francis or Bishop, the Order Bishops, the clergy, and the entire people you have called your own. Remember also our sisters and brothers who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy, welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all. We pray that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, the Blessed Joseph, our spouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son Jesus Christ. Through him and with him and in him. O God, Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, O glory and honor is yours for ever and ever. Amen. And at the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say, O Father, who are in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day your daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant our peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen. The peace of the Lord be with you always. And with your spirit. And let us offer each other a sign of peace. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed. May the body of Christ keep us safe for eternal life. May the blood of Christ keep us safe for eternal life.
