Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I am Father Roshan Lloyd DeSouza. The televising of this mass is made possible by the contributions from three donors. The first is an anonymous donor from Burlington, Ontario, in loving memory of her grandparents Jose Rodriguez, Margarita de Concesao, and her aunt Francesca Rodriguez, and in support of the Daily TV Mass. The second is Richard Lobo, for the soul of his beloved wife Norreen Lobo, who passed away on the 6th of January 2023. Also for the souls of the departed members of his family and friends, for countless favours received for the welfare and intentions of his children and grandchildren and for peace in the world. Today is the memorial of St. John Viani, priest, patron saint of the clergy. Today, as we honor Saint John Viani, who used his gifts and blessings to spread the kingdom of God, we too likewise may use our gifts and talents to spread the name of Christ and his kingdom. To enter into this celebration, let us call to mind our sins and seek God's mercy. I confess to Almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore, I ask Blessed Mary, our virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Christ have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy. A reading from the book of the prophet Jeremiah. Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel. Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you, for thus says the Lord, your hurt is incurable, your wound is grievous. There is no one to uphold your cause, no medicine for your wound, no healing for you. All your lovers have forgotten you, they care nothing for you, for I have dealt you the blow of an enemy, the punishment of a merciless foe, because your guilt is great, because your sins are so numerous. Why do you cry out over your hurt? Your pain is incurable, because your guilt is great, because your sins are so numerous. I have done these things to you. Thus says the Lord, I'm going to restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob, and have compassion on his dwellings. The city shall be rebuilt upon its mound, and the city and the citadel set on its rightful site. Out of them shall come thanksgiving, and the sound of merrymakers. I will make them many, and they shall not be few. I will make them honored, and they shall not be disdained. Their children shall be as of old, their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all who oppress them. Their prince shall be one of their own, their ruler shall come from their midst. I shall bring him near, and he shall approach me. For who would otherwise dare to approach me? says the Lord, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God. The word of the Lord.

And with your spirit. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. Then Jesus called the crowd to him and said to them, Listen and understand, it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but it is what comes out of the mouth that defiles. Then the disciples approached and said to him, Do you know that the Pharisees took offense when they heard what you said? Jesus answered, Every plant that my heavenly father has not planted will be uprooted. Let them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. And if one blind person guides another, both will fall into a pit. The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. A young boy once brought home a clay pot he had made in school. He was so proud of it. But as he walked into the house, the pot slipped from his hands and shattered into pieces. He burst into tears. Looking at the broken pieces, he thought it was over. His mother quietly sat beside him, gathered every piece, and said, It may be broken now, but broken things can be rebuilt. Together, they patiently repaired the part. The cracks remained visible, but the part became even more beautiful because it carried a story of healing. This story reflects today's readings. Many of us know what it feels like to be broken. Broken by failure, betrayal, grief, sickness, disappointment, or even sin. Sometimes families are wounded by misunderstanding. Sometimes hearts are wounded by rejection. Sometimes our spiritual life becomes dry and empty. In such moments, we wonder, can anything good come from this brokenness? The first reading from Jeremiah speaks directly into human suffering. God tells Israel, your wound is incurable, your injury grievous. These are hard words. God is not denying the pain, he is acknowledging it. Sometimes healing begins when we stop pretending everything is okay or fine. God sees our wounds, every hidden tear, every silent struggle, every burden we carry. But the reading does not end in despair. God makes a powerful promise. I will restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob. I will have compassion. What human strength cannot heal, God can restore. Jeremiah reminds us that God is not only interested in repairing circumstances, he wants to rebuild lives, relationships, communities, and hearts. Our psalm today beautifully echoes this hope. The Lord will build up Zion again. Our God is a rebuilder. He rebuilds shattered faith. He rebuilds wounded marriages. He rebuilds broken confidence. He rebuilds hearts crushed by sorrow. In the Gospel, Jesus confronts another kind of brokenness, not external suffering, but inner blindness. The Pharisees were obsessed with external rituals, especially washing hands according to tradition. But Jesus shifts the focus from outward appearances to inward truth. Jesus says something profound. Spiritual impurity does not begin outside us, it begins within when the heart is disconnected from God. How relevant this is today! We live in a world deeply concerned with appearances, how we look, what image we project, what others think of us. Social media often encourages carefully curated perfection. We can appear religious, successful, happy, and holy on the outside while carrying pride, resentment, jealousy, or bitterness inside. Jesus warns us against becoming spiritually blind. The blind cannot lead the blind. A person disconnected from truth cannot guide others toward truth. This applies not only to leaders but to each of us. Parents guide children, teachers guide students, priests guide communities, friends influence friends. If our hearts are not rooted in God, we may unintentionally lead others away from what truly matters. So, what are the life lessons from today's readings? First of all, bring your brokenness to God. Do not hide your wounds from the Lord our God. God already sees them. Prayer is not about impressing God, it is about opening our wounded hearts to his healing grace. Secondly, focus on inner holiness, not just outer appearances. Faith is more than rituals, words, or public image. God looks at the heart, asks daily, is my heart growing in love, humility, forgiveness, and truth? Third, be careful whom you follow. Not every voice around us leads us to life. Some voices feed fear, pride, anger, or confusion. Choose guides rooted in wisdom, faith, and truth. Above all, follow Christ. Finally, trust God's rebuilding power. No situation is beyond God's grace. Even when life feels shattered, God can rebuild something beautiful from broken pieces. The repaired clay pot still had cracks, but those cracks became signs of healing, not defeat. Perhaps that is true for us too. God does not always erase every scar, but he gives those scars meaning. What was once a wound can become a testimony. What was once broken can become grace-filled. Today, if you feel wounded, discouraged, or spiritually tired, hear God's promise. I will restore, I will rebuild. And remember, when God rebuilds, he does not merely restore what was lost. He often creates something more beautiful than before. Amen. Let us bring our prayers to our loving God. Let us pray for the church that we may build his kingdom here on earth. We pray to the Lord. For all those in our daily TV mass prayer intentions book, we pray to the Lord. We make these prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation. For through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you, fruit of the earth and work of human hands, which will become for us the bread of life. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you. Through the wine and work of human hands, it will become a spiritual drink. Blessed be God forever. Receive, O Lord, we pray, the offerings placed on your altar in commemoration of blessed St. John Mary Viani, so that as you brought him glory, you may, through these sacred mysteries, grant to us your pardon through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just truly right and just our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, through Christ our Lord. For as on the festival of St. John Viani, you bid your church rejoice, so to you strengthen her by the example of his holy life. Teach her by his words of preaching, and keep her safe in answer to his prayers. And so, with a company of angels and saints, we sing the hymn of your praise as without end we acclaim.

Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo, our Pope, Francis, our bishop, and all the clergy.
