SPEAKER_02Good day and welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. My name is Monsignor Sambianko. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contribution from an anonymous donor from Toronto, Ontario. This Mass is offered for good health and peace within the family and for the repose of the souls of her nephew, her brother Antonio, and all the deceased family members. Our thanks to our donor for making it possible for tens of thousands of faithful across Canada, the United States, and around the world to celebrate in this self-celebration. Today is the feast of the Transfiguration. To celebrate this feast in a proper and appropriate manner, we seek the Lord's mercy and forgiveness for our sins. You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord have mercy.

SPEAKER_02You came to call sinners. Christ have mercy. You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. May Almighty God have mercy on all of us, forgive us our sins, and bring us all to everlasting life.

SPEAKER_02Glory to God in the highest and on earth. Peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory. Lord God, Heavenly King, O God Almighty Father, Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son. Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. You are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father. Amen. Let us pray. O God, who in the glorious transfiguration of your only begotten Son, confirmed the mysteries of faith by the witness of the Fathers, and wonderfully prefigured our full adoption to sonship, grant we pray to your service that listening to the voice of your beloved Son, we may merit to become co-heirs with him, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
SPEAKER_06Amen. A reading from the second letter of Saint Peter. We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father, when that voice was conveyed to him by the majestic glory, saying, This is my Son the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased. We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain. So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this, as to a lamp shining in a dark place until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. The word of the Lord.
SPEAKER_04Let the many ghost lands be glad. Clouds and fake darkness are Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. The most mountains, mountains like marks before Before the Lord The Heavens proclaim his people, be holy. With him I am well pleased, listen to him.

SPEAKER_02A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew. Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah talking with him. Then Peter said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will make dwellings here. One for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them. And from the cloud a voice said, This is my son, the beloved. With him I am well pleased. Listen to him. When his disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, Get up and do not be afraid. And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead. The gospel of the Lord. He was transfigured. The great theologian, scripture scholar, Romano Guardini says, the transfiguration is like summer lightning. And not so much in urban areas, but if you're out in the country or out in nature and it's uh dark at night or something, and there's a thunderstorm, and then you see lightning going across the sky. It's it's extraordinary. It lights up the whole sky for miles and miles, at least for a few moments, you can see in all directions, and it's sparkling and it's brilliant. I appreciate there's our dangers with that of fire, but uh if the ground is moist and it's good, that the fire doesn't happen. What happens is it's the light, uh, the brilliance that's so unusual and unique it startles and it holds you back, and you're left for at least uh one hopes for a moment in awe and wonder of what is happening. Uh Jesus was transfigured. The sky, reality was opened up for Jesus' disciples. And they saw in Jesus something of Moses. You know, Moses represents and is the law. It's the essence of the law that Moses particularly represents. I shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and mind and soul, and your neighbor as yourself. All the laws summarized in that two-part commandment. And they see for a moment in Jesus everything that Moses brought to the world. Jesus is the one who loves God with all his heart and his soul, and his neighbor as himself. And then they see Jesus with the prophets, all the great prophets, Elijah, Ezekiel, Micah, uh, uh Jeremiah, everything that we represent and know about the beauty of the prophets. Uh like Isaiah, I will raise you up on eagle's wings, as with Isaiah. Does a mother ever forget the child born in her womb? All the things that are beautiful, that are challenging, that are so poetic, so spiritual about all the prophets throughout all of history. They're part of the reality of who Jesus is. So that lightning lights up that in Jesus. It lights up the prophets and Moses. But the lightning tells us something about who Jesus is. We know as best we can from the way he talked and walked and preached and lived that Jesus was a human being in communication with others. He touched people, he was close to them, he was with them in all the things, the good things they did. He was the very best of what it meant to be a human being, but without sin. But to understand something of a human being, anyone and I know this, we meet a person, gradually over time, it becomes apparent to us that more and more of that person is being revealed to us. We thought we knew the person and we saw something more about them. And that the way, brothers and sisters, is with Jesus. The lightning lights up the fact of the death of Jesus. It shows not only the humanity which is so close to us in all ways, it shows Jesus integrating into himself the suffering of the world and his own suffering. But it's not suffering without meaning to it. Jesus never talks about death without always talking about the resurrection. So what we see in Jesus is not only the suffering that he shares with all of us, but the deep hope all of us want that suffering is not meaningless, then in some way, partially on earth, it will lead to the fullness of life, to the resurrection. And in that moment, that inspiration on the mountain, that's what the disciples see. Still they see more there. The words that are used by the disciples is this beloved son. To be beloved means someone loves you and you receive that love. So what's being revealed in Jesus is that there's a God, a Father, who loves Jesus with all his being. He loves, pours everything into Jesus, and Jesus receives that love. He's the beloved. There's no such thing as being beloved without there being a source of love. And in Jesus' case is a case of reciprocity. The Father loves Jesus in everything that he is, and Jesus returns that love. It's reciprocal, it's communicated. There's no such thing as isolated, autonomous love. Love always means relationship, being in communion with one another. And that has implications for you and me. The great um uh teacher of the church, Irenaeus, says about this passage, the glory of God is man alive. And what Irenaeus is saying is human beings reflect the beauty and the glory of God. But we human beings never reflect that glory without being in communion with one another, without being in association with one another. And then Irenaeus goes on to say, the life of man is the vision of God. I know so many people say I'm spiritual, I don't need God. That's not the reality of who Jesus is. At one and the same time, he's in communion with others, but he's always praising and worshiping God. And that's what we offer to ourselves and to the world. That's the revelation that transfigures the world. And small acts can do that. I belong to the St. Vincent of Paul. A lady told me she visited someone who was in need of assistance. The lady said responded to the assistance, but the lady was filled with a sense of strength and of goodness. To my mind, that's transfiguration. When we can be in communion with one another, when we can insist, assist someone, but at the same time receive something from the other person. That's to be transfigured, that's to be changed. And that's what what the glory of God is when we see the goodness in other people and know that God is giving us that gift. It might be a small act, but it's the whole combination of small little acts of transfiguration that changes us and changes our world. SPEAKER_02Sanctify, O Lord, we pray these offerings here made to celebrate the glorious transfiguration of your only begotten Son, and by his radiant splendor, cleanse us from the stains of sin. We ask this through Christ our Lord. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just truly right and just our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks. Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, through Christ our Lord. For he revealed his glory in the presence of chosen witnesses and filled with the greatest splendor that bodily form which he shares with all humanity, that the scandal of the cross might be removed from the hearts of his disciples, that he might show how in the body of the whole church is to be fulfilled what so wonderfully shone forth first in its head. And so, with the powers of heaven, we worship you constantly on earth, and before your majesty, without end we acclaim.

SPEAKER_02At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion. He took bread and giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it. For this is my body, which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it. This is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.

SPEAKER_04When we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your death, oh Lord, until you come again.
SPEAKER_02Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo, our Pope, Francis, our bishop, all the clergy, and all the people of God. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph, her spouse, with the blessed apostles, and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your Son Jesus Christ.
SPEAKER_01Through him and with him and in him, O God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, our glory and honor is yours for ever and ever.
SPEAKER_04Amen.
SPEAKER_02At the Savior's command, informed now by divine teaching, we dare to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days, that with the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ, for the kingdom, the power, and the glory of yours. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you. My peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever.

SPEAKER_02Behold, the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that should enter under my roof, but only sing a word.
SPEAKER_03Please join me now in this act of spiritual communion. My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.
SPEAKER_02Let us pray. May the heavenly nourishment we have received, O Lord, we pray, transform us into the likeness of your Son, whose radiant splendor you willed to make manifest in his glorious transfiguration, who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen. The Lord be with you.
