SPEAKER_01Welcome to the celebration of the Daily TV Mass. I am senior David Rylander. The televising of this Mass is made possible by the contribution from the Gray Sisters of the Immaculate Conception from Pembroke, Ontario. This Mass is offered in Thanksgiving for the Shalom Unit at Marion Hill Long-Term Care Home and for the wonderful and dedicated staff who care for the residents. We also pray for peace in our world and for an end to the arms race. We know that this television mass brings meaning to the lives of tens of thousands of the faithful across Canada, the USA, and around the world. And they join with me in thanking the Grace Sisters of the Immaculate Conception for the gift of this Mass. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you.

SPEAKER_01We prepare ourselves now by calling to mind our sin. You are sent to heal the contrite of the heart. Lord have mercy. You came to call sinners. Christ have mercy. You plead for us at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us. Lord, have mercy. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Let us pray. O God, who in your mercy led Saint Clare to a love of poverty, grant through her intercession that following Christ in poverty of spirit, we may merit to contemplate you one day in the heavenly kingdom, through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.
SPEAKER_00A reading from the book of the prophet Ezekiel. Thus says the Lord, but you, mortal, hear what I say to you. Do not be rebellious like that rebellious house. Open your mouth and eat what I give you. I looked, and a hand was stretched out to me, and a written scroll was in it. He spread it before me. It had writing on the front and on the back, and written on it were words of lamentation and mourning and woe. He said to me, O mortal, eat what is offered to you. Eat this scroll and go. Speak to the house of Israel. So I opened my mouth, and he gave me the scroll to eat. He said to me, Mortal, eat this scroll that I give you, and fill your stomach with it. Then I ate it, and in my mouth it was as sweet as honey. He said to me, Mortal, go to the house of Israel, and speak my very words to them. The word of the Lord.
SPEAKER_03Your decrees are my delight. They are my customers. Sweeter than honey to my mouth. Take my yoke up on you learn from me, for I am gentle and humble love.
SPEAKER_01A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? Jesus called a child, whom he put among them, and said, Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven, who welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. Take care that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you, in heaven their angels continually see the face of my Father in heaven. What do you think? If a shepherd has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost. The Gospel of the Lord. Saint Clare was important in my vocation, Saint Clair, Saint Francis, Saint Dominic. Young people are attracted to them because at their own young age they chose to be with the Lord. They chose to be little ones of the Lord. And they showed that in their poverty and their complete dependence upon him. Be like little children. Does that mean be childish? No. Be childlike. Well, what are children like? They are totally dependent. If you tell them something, they believe it one hundred percent. The word of the Lord, we are told, is sweet like honey. Well, how can words be like honey? One is communication, the other is food. Well, it's a metaphor. The sweetness of the word of the Lord is sweet because it brings a good taste. In other words, we find wisdom, we find comfort, we find direction, and most importantly, we find salvation in the word of God. That is very sweet. What is sweet? Honey is sweet. And so the Lord gives to us a very good metaphor. Depend on the Lord. How? I don't see the Lord anywhere. So how would I depend on the Lord? Well, what do you have before you that the Lord has given to you? And that is the word. So when we listen to the scriptures, God is addressing his little one. Yeah, but I don't always understand everything that's in the Bible. Oh, that's okay. Neither do I. It's a very big book. And I'm not a scripture scholar. I don't read biblical Hebrew or Greek. But I do the best I can. Of course, a very good tool today, if you don't understand something in the Bible, Google it or use what do they call one of those other things? A browser or internet? Well, I don't know. I'm not up on this sort of thing. So I say Google it. Not that I favor Google. But you can find out a lot. When I'm writing articles or I'm preparing homilies, sometimes I'll go to the internet, whatever browser, and I'll look it up. There are great resources there. And so the word of God, in the first reading, we hear, roll up the scroll and eat it. Well, today we have paper, books. But thousands of years ago, they would use parchment or animal skins, and they would roll them up. And so they had scrolls. Eat, consume the word of God, and it will be sweet to you. Saint Claire, whom we celebrate today, did just that. She was like Mary, the sister of Martha. She would sit at the feet of the Lord before a crucifix and contemplate the words that God gave to us through the prophets, through the scripture writers, through the fathers of the church and mothers. And she would think about what these things meant. A very good thing that you can do is do a daily reading. Again, you can find it on the internet. For example, take the readings of the Mass and each day spend five minutes thinking about what those words mean. What they mean to you. If you don't understand, say, Lord, I don't get what you're saying here. Inform me. And let the words of the Lord become like honey to you. Coming before the Lord, we offer our prayers of the faithful. For those in our daily TV Mass prayer book, we pray to the Lord. We pray this month that Mary's assumption renews our hope of one day sharing eternal life with her and her son. We pray to the Lord. We pray for the community of the poor clerks and all religious orders who serve the poor. We pray to the Lord. Lord hear our prayer. For those who are homeless, those living on the streets, those who cannot put food on their table, that the Lord will motivate us to provide for them. We pray to the Lord. We pray for those who are suffering in mind or body, that they may receive the healing peace of Christ. We pray to the Lord. We pray for those who have died, that they may rest in the peace of Christ. We pray to the Lord. We pause to offer the intentions and the silence of our hearts. For these we pray to the Lord. Heavenly Father, you give to us the life of your Son Jesus Christ, who is your word. Hear our prayers in his name, for he is our Lord forever and ever. Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you. The fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life. Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you, fruit of the vine, and work of human hands, and will become our spiritual drink. Humbly entreating that they may bestow on us both pardon and salvation through Christ our Lord. The Lord be with you. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just truly right and just our duty and salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, for in the saints who consecrated themselves to Christ, for the sake of the kingdom of heaven, it is right to celebrate the wonders of your providence, by which you call human nature back to its original holiness, and bring it to experience on this earth the gifts you promise in the new world to come. And so with all the angels and saints we praise you, as without end we acclaim.

SPEAKER_01Make holy, therefore, these gifts we pray, by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread and giving thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of it. For this is my body, which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and once more, giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it. For this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be offered up for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me. Therefore, as we celebrate the Memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray the partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church, spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo, our Pope, Francis, our bishop, and all the clergy. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy, welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph, her spouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-hearers to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy, welcome them into the light of your faith. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph, her spouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ. Through him and with him and in him, O God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours for ever and ever.

SPEAKER_01At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say, Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
SPEAKER_06The kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever.
SPEAKER_01The Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, Peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church. Graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever. The peace of the Lord be with you always.
SPEAKER_05And with you.
SPEAKER_01Let us share this peace. Behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word, and my soul shall be healed.
SPEAKER_02My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this holy sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things, and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul, so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.
SPEAKER_01Let us pray. May the working of this divine sacrament enlighten and inflame us, Almighty God, and on this feast day of Blessed St. Clair, that we may be ever fervent with holy desires and abound in good works through Christ our Lord.
