Brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries. I confess to Almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do. Through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore I ask Blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory. Grant we pray that always attentive to the things that are above, we may merit to be sharers of her glory. A reading from the Book of Revelation. God's temple in heaven was opened, and the Ark of His covenant was seen within His temple. A great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pangs, in the agony of giving birth. Then another portent appeared in heaven, a great red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven diadems on his head. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman who was about to bear a child, so that he might devour her child as soon as it was born. And she gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron. But her child was snatched away and taken to God and to his throne. And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, so that there she can be nourished for one thousand two hundred and sixty days. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven proclaiming, Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ, the word of the Lord.

Brothers and sisters, Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a man. For all as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ, but each in his own order. Christ, the first fruits, then at his coming, those who belong to Christ, then comes the end. When he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, after he has destroyed every ruler and every authority and power, for he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. The word of the Lord.

Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the child leapt in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why has this happened to me? The mother of my Lord comes to me. For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leapt for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord. Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior, for He has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely from now on all generations will call me blessed. For the mighty one has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is for those who fear him, from generation to generation, for he has shown strength with his arm. He has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. He has brought down the powerful from their thrones and lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel in remembrance of his mercy, according to the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his descendants forever. And Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months, and then returned to her home. The Gospel of the Lord. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Our brothers and sisters, today we celebrate the great solemnity of the assumption of the Mother of God into heaven. So the church has always believed that Mary has a very special role. She's the mother of the Redeemer, the Theotokos. She is the icon of what it means to be a Christian. She's the perfect Christian, one who's completely filled with God and who constantly sought the will of God in her own life. And she was conceived without sin, but throughout her entire life, which was also filled with suffering, she always kept her faith in God, her complete trust in Him. She loved Him above all things throughout her entire life. And at the end of her earthly life, as the church teaches, she was taking a body and soul into heaven. So Mary is taking a body and soul into heaven at the end of her earthly life. So this great assumption, so she, it was not through her own power. When Christ ascends, it's through his own power that he rises from the dead. And then it's through his own power that he ascends, right? Bodily he goes back to the Father. With Mary and the assumption, it is God Himself who lifts up Mary and He assumes her into heaven and her rightful place, where she is there as the queen of heaven, interceding before God, before her son, before the Father and the Holy Spirit, on behalf of all of the church, on behalf of all of humanity. So Mary's role, her intercessory role, continues. And there's the final words of today's gospel I find to be quite fascinating. We know that Mary, again, she loves God above all things. Her life was a praise of the glory of God. And so how do we, how can we experience, how can we get to heaven with Mary? How can we be there with her? She's there, she precedes us, and she's interceding for us. So what can we learn from her life, her earthly life, so that one day we too can be with God in the resurrection? Well, the final lines of today's gospel are very simple, but they're very profound. It says, And Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months, then returned to her home. Three months. But what happened during those three months? See, when Mary was chosen by God to be his mother, she did not mound the earthly throne, but she was moved by the Holy Spirit to go and visit Elizabeth, her cousin, who was found pregnant and old age. So this was a great grace that she had received. So when Mary arrives there, you can see the operating of the Holy Spirit in John the Baptist already in the womb of Elizabeth. You can hear this beautiful exchange, the prayers that we say every day on the rosary, part of them are taken directly from Scripture. We see this with the encounter. Again, then Mary, she's overwhelmed with the grace of God, right? So she's, and then she begins to proclaim the goodness of God. She says, My soul magnifies the Lord. She doesn't magnify herself, she magnifies God. So we can see already here, by magnifying God in our lives, praising God, that is a necessary prerequisite in order to be taken into heaven one day. So do we live our lives praising God, regardless of the circumstances that we find ourselves in? So that's the first question for us on which we should meditate. So do I seek God above everything? Or do I seek myself? In Mary's case, we know that it was always God. And she says very clearly, she knows who she is before God. She knows that God has given her this gift. So He's given her this great gift that we will remember her for every generation, which is what we're doing right now, what the church will always do. And she re speaks of the mercy of God and she also speaks of humility. Mary recognizes that she's part of the Anuim. She realizes that everything is gift. And her humility, she receives everything, and she offers everything back to God. So we're called to do the same thing. And then the last thing, which is very important, is that for those three months that the Virgin Mary is there, she served. The mother of God serves. So she went to fetch the water, she would cook, she would clean, she did the laundry, she did she conversed with Elizabeth, she was there to support her throughout those three months. Very simple things, but it was in the loving fidelity to God as expressed in her care for her neighbor, which already helped her to experience, which brought heaven on earth and prepared her for her ongoing role interceding for all of us in heaven. So, my brothers and sisters, God wants us with him in heaven when we leave this earth. At the end of time, he wants all of us in the resurrection to receive a glorified body and soul. And the best way to do that is to be faithful in our daily lives, of glorifying God in all things, embracing suffering, embrace it, knowing that we're united to Christ, and serving our brothers and sisters. It's not complicated, but it's not easy without the grace of God either. And we ask the most blessed Virgin Mary to help us along the way. Let us now profess our faith. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. Let us bring our prayers to God who created the earth and its fullness. For the Holy Catholic Church, as it continues to speak out against all that would destroy human dignity, let us pray to the Lord.

Our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks. Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, through Christ our Lord. For today the Virgin Mother of God was assumed into heaven as the beginning and image of your church's coming to perfection, and as a sign of sure hope and comfort to your pilgrim people. Rightly you would not allow her to see the corruption of the tomb, since from her own body she marvelously brought forth your incarnate Son, the author of all life. And so, in company with the choirs of angels, we praise you, and with joy we proclaim.

For this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many, for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me. Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held as worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo our Pope and Francis our bishop and all the clergy. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, will bless Joseph, her spouse, with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages. We may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ. Through him and with him and in him. O God, Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, our glory and honor is yours for ever and ever. At the Savior's command, informed by divine teaching, we dare to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, Peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of our church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever.
